Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book became possible after much encouragement from colleagues and friends. For a long time, I wanted to write something similar for the main reason that some colleagues had difficulty understanding the details of the field. Some of them even minimizing its value, considering its usefulness superficial. There is nothing very complicated in campimetry. Fortunately, it is a very visual matter, as are lesions of the neural fibers of the retina and the optic nerve head. Something similar to disciplines such as Anatomy, Histology, and Histopathology, among others. The main purpose of this book is to intend to make interest in campimetry possible, encouraging the recall of what has been learned and forgotten, or the learning to use an underutilized resource, which can facilitate not only the daily work of each one but also allows improve the vision of patients, carriers of pathologies that can be resolved or mitigated, adding, at least, hope.

Book Synopsis Clinical Pathways in Stroke Rehabilitation by : Thomas Platz
Download or read book Clinical Pathways in Stroke Rehabilitation written by Thomas Platz and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-01-14 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book focuses on practical clinical problems that are frequently encountered in stroke rehabilitation. Consequences of diseases, e.g. impairments and activity limitations, are addressed in rehabilitation with the overall goal to reduce disability and promote participation. Based on the available best external evidence, clinical pathways are described for stroke rehabilitation bridging the gap between clinical evidence and clinical decision-making. The clinical pathways answer the questions which rehabilitation treatment options are beneficial to overcome specific impairment constellations and activity limitations and are well acceptable to stroke survivors, as well as when and in which settings to provide rehabilitation over the course of recovery post stroke. Each chapter starts with a description of the clinical problem encountered. This is followed by a systematic, but concise review of the evidence (RCTs, systematic reviews and meta-analyses) that is relevant for clinical decision-making, and comments on assessment, therapy (training, technology, medication), and the use of technical aids as appropriate. Based on these summaries, clinical algorithms / pathways are provided and the main clinical-decision situations are portrayed. The book is invaluable for all neurorehabilitation team members, clinicians, nurses, and therapists in neurology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, and related fields. It is a World Federation for NeuroRehabilitation (WFNR) educational initiative, bridging the gap between the rapidly expanding clinical research in stroke rehabilitation and clinical practice across societies and continents. It can be used for both clinical decision-making for individuals and as well as clinical background knowledge for stroke rehabilitation service development initiatives.

Book Synopsis Progressive Myoclonus Epilepsies by : Berge A. Minassian
Download or read book Progressive Myoclonus Epilepsies written by Berge A. Minassian and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Progressive myoclonus epilepsies are a group of rare genetic diseases. The onset generally occurs around puberty in otherwise healthy children. They all involve myoclonus and epilepsy but then differ depending on the different symptoms that are related. The outlook of these diseases is nearly always unfavourable and treatment only focuses on symptoms. Much planning will be needed to improve the quality of life for these children who will gradually become over time more and more severely disabled. Among these diseases, the most notable is Unverricht-Lundborg disease and Lafora disease, among others. However, the genetic mechanism of these diseases is simple and has been perfectly identified over time thanks to advancements in scientific discoveries. Hope lies in gene therapy, which in the near future will most likely be able to optimise treatment and even cure these children. This book addresses the situation by relying on clinicians descriptions, studies led by biologists on genetic variations and mutations and the work carried out daily by numerous scientists researching into treatment. By retracing the history of these diseases, from discovery and identification of mutated genes to the review of syndromes they encompass, this book marks the path we have travelled but also the distance we have yet to go.
