This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sheet and film processes include coating, papermaking, metal rolling, and polymer film extrusion. Products produced by these processes include paper, bumper stickers, plastic bags, windshield safety glass, and sheet metal. The total capitalization of industries that rely on these processes is well over $ 500 billion worldwide. These processes are notorious for being difficult to control. The goal of this book is to present the theoretical background and practical techniques for the identification and control of sheet and film processes. It is explained why many existing industrial control systems perform poorly for sheet and film processes. Identification and control algorithms are described and illustrated which provide consistent and reliable product quality. These algorithms include an experimental design technique that ensures that informative data are collected during input-output experimentation, model identification techniques that produce a process model and an estimate of its accuracy, and control techniques that take into account actuator constraints as well as robustness to model uncertainties. The algorithms covered in this book are truly the state of the art. Variations on some of the algorithms have been implemented on industrial sheet and film processes. Other algorithms are in various stages of implementation. All of the algorithms have been applied to realistic simulation models constructed from industrial plant data; many of these studies are included in this book.

Transdisciplinary engineering solutions can address issues arising when a solution is not evident during the initial development stages in the multidisciplinary area. This book presents the proceedings of RDECS-2022, the 1st international conference on Recent Developments in Electronics and Communication Systems, held on 22 and 23 July 2022 at Aditya Engineering College, Surampalem, India. The primary goal of RDECS-2022 was to challenge existing ideas and encourage interaction between academia and industry to promote the sort of collaborative activities involving scientists, engineers, professionals, researchers, and students that play a major role in almost all fields of scientific growth. The conference also aimed to provide an arena for showcasing advancements and research endeavors being undertaken in all parts of the world. A large number of technical papers with rich content, describing ground-breaking research from participants from various institutes, were submitted for presentation at the conference. This book presents 108 of these papers, which cover a wide range of topics ranging from cloud computing to disease forecasting and from weather reporting to the detection of fake news. Offering a fascinating overview of recent research and developments in electronics and communications systems, the book will be of interest to all those working in the field.

This book was released on 2023-06-28 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quality and safety of agricultural products affect human nutrition and health. Agricultural products results from natural process influenced by a myriad of factors (e.g., genetics, environments before harvest, postharvest storage conditions). These factors lead to significant variations of agricultural products, externally and internally, which consequently pose great challenges with quality and safety evaluation. Development of advanced techniques for measuring agricultural product quality and safety is thus crucial to ensuring high quality, nutritious and safe food supplies. Non-destructive sensing technologies (e.g., optical, thermal, ultrasonic), in conjunction with advanced data analytics (e.g., machine learning) and control and automation technology, have evolved as a potent means for augmenting existing quality and safety control efforts of agricultural products, which largely rely on human or manual product assessment. With advancements in sensor and computer technologies, recent years have seen commercial-scale adoption of non-destructive sensing technology (e.g., machine vision, near-infrared spectroscopy) for postharvest quality evaluation for a diversity of specialty crop products (e.g., apples, citrus, kiwi). However, there are still numerous challenges with robust, high-performance detection of many quality and safety issues, such as subsurface/internal defects and contamination. This Research Topic covers the latest developments and applications of advanced non-destructive sensing technologies for quality and safety evaluation of agricultural products, with relevant areas including but not limited to: 1. Assessment of external and internal quality; 2. Detection of subsurface and internal defects; 3. Safety detection of agricultural products; 4. Design and development of advanced sensing system; 5. Multi-modal sensing and applications; 6. Online product grading and sorting; 7. Data handling methods (e.g., machine learning)
