Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this dissertation, we report the results of investigations on the stable and unstable growth of a vapor bubble in superheated liquids using Direct Numerical Simulations (DNS). A front tracking/finite difference scheme is used in conjunction with a Sharp Interface Method (SIM) to solve the governing equations of fluid flow and heat transfer. A spherical vapor seed whose radius is larger than the critical radius is introduced in a pool of superheated liquid and its evolution is followed. The goal of this research is threefold. The first is to identify the criteria that demark the stable growth from the unstable one on the physical parameter space. Secondly, this research seeks to quantify the dynamics of the unstable growth of vapor bubbles of representative fluid systems (water, diethyl ether, and cryogenic data). The third objective is to understand the relative importance and the interaction of various parameters that affect the instability. Download or read book THE GROWTH OF VAPOR BUBBLES IN SUPER-HEATED LIQUIDS. written by and published by . This book was released on 1953 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The growth of a vapor bubble in a superheated liquid is controlled by the inertia of the liquid, the surface tension, and the vapor pressure. As the bubble grows, evaporation takes place at the bubble boundary, and the temperature and vapor pressure in the bubble are decreased. The heat inflow requirement of evaporation, however, depends on the rate of bubble growth, so that the dynamic problem is linked with a heat diffusion problem. Since the heat diffusion problem has been solved, a quantitative formulation of the dynamic problem can be given. A solution for the radius of the vapor bubble as a function of time is obtained. This asymptotic solution covers the range of physical interest since the radius at which it becomes valid is near the lower limit of experimental observation. It shows the strong effect of heat diffusion on the rate of bubble growth. Comparison of the predicted radius-time behavior with experimental observations in superheated water shows good agreement.

This book was released on 2014-12-25 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mathematical modeling of bubbles dynamics is presented in turbulent flow to study the behaviour of vapour growth bubble between two phases (vapour-superheated liquids) flow. Theoretical study of the growth problem is solved analytically in terms of initial void fraction and initial bubble velocity. The growth problem in a viscous superheated liquid is investigated under the proposed pressure of Plesset and Zwick. The growth of bubble radius in a constant and variable dynamical viscosity is studied. The effect of constant and variable dynamical viscosity for two different cases of pressure is studied. The initial time of growth of vapour bubbles between two phase laminar-turbulent flow is introduced in thermal stage. This book is suitable and will be interesting for all researchers in related fields.

Download or read book Vapor Explosions in Superheated Liquids and Fundamental Studies of the Physics of Detonation written by G. R. Fowles and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The experimental was entirely devoted to developing the experimental technique. In this technique superheated states are produced by sudden adiabatic depressurization of fluids whose initial state lies on the liquid-vapor co-existence curve, as is done on a more modest scale in bubble chambers. The technique is still being perfected and although it appears to be feasible and nearly functional, no data have yet been taken. Significant degrees of superheat have been obtained for several milliseconds. The theoretical phase, on shock and detonation instabilities, appears to have successfully shown the connection between transverse wave instabilities and the observed three-dimensional structure of detonation waves. It indicates that such transverse wave structure might be expected in all detonation waves and that it is caused by a modified form of the transverse wave instability predicted for shocks in inert materials. Originator supplied key words include: Lasers, Vapor explosions, Superheated liquids, Detonation waxes, and Shock waves.
