Download or read book Flow and Heat Transfer in Rotating-disc Systems written by J. M. Owen and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is devoted to the flow and heat transfer between co-rotating discs, and unifies the subject by means of physical insight and mathematical models, validated using experimental data. Many phenomena, unique to rotating flows, are explained, and empirical correlations and theoretical methods, suitable for design purposes, are presented. Data is provided within the book for validating CFD codes which are being increasingly used to compute the flow in rotating-disc systems. Since the publication of Volume 1 in 1989, there has been an increasing interest in rotating disc systems, mainly from research workers and engine designers concerned with understanding and computing the complex flow and heat transfer that occur inside the internal cooling-systems of gas-turbine engines. This book should be of interest to them as it may assist them in making more efficient use of cooling air systems, resulting in both economic and environmental benefits.

Book Synopsis Convective Heat and Mass Transfer in Rotating Disk Systems by : Igor V. Shevchuk
Download or read book Convective Heat and Mass Transfer in Rotating Disk Systems written by Igor V. Shevchuk and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-12-01 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is devoted to investigation of a series of problems of convective heat and mass transfer in rotating-disk systems. Such systems are widespread in scienti?c and engineering applications. As examples from the practical area, one can mention gas turbine and computer engineering, disk brakes of automobiles, rotating-disk air cleaners, systems of microclimate, extractors, dispensers of liquids, evaporators, c- cular saws, medical equipment, food process engineering, etc. Among the scienti?c applications, it is necessary to point out rotating-disk electrodes used for experim- tal determination of the diffusion coef?cient in electrolytes. The system consisting of a ?xed disk and a rotating cone that touches the disk by its vertex is widely used for measurement of the viscosity coef?cient of liquids. For time being, large volume of experimental and computational data on par- eters of ?uid ?ow, heat and mass transfer in different types of rotating-disk systems have been accumulated, and different theoretical approaches to their simulation have been developed. This obviously causes a need of systematization and generalization of these data in a book form.

Book Synopsis Numerical Prediction of Flow, Heat Transfer, Turbulence and Combustion by : D. Brian Spalding
Download or read book Numerical Prediction of Flow, Heat Transfer, Turbulence and Combustion written by D. Brian Spalding and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2015-07-14 with total page 445 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerical Prediction of Flow, Heat Transfer, Turbulence and Combustion: Selected Works of Professor D. Brian Spalding focuses on the many contributions of Professor Spalding on thermodynamics. This compilation of his works is done to honor the professor on the occasion of his 60th birthday. Relatively, the works contained in this book are selected to highlight the genius of Professor Spalding in this field of interest. The book presents various research on combustion, heat transfer, turbulence, and flows. His thinking on separated flows paved the way for the multi-dimensional modeling of turbulence. Arguments on the universality of the models of turbulence and the problems that are associated with combustion engineering are clarified. The text notes the importance of combustion science as well as the problems associated with it. Mathematical computations are also presented in determining turbulent flows in different environments, including on curved pipes, curved ducts, and rotating ducts. These calculations are presented to further strengthen the claims of Professor Spalding in this discipline. The book is a great find for those who are interested in studying thermodynamics.

Book Synopsis Prediction of Heat Transfer in a Rotating Cavity with a Radial Outflow by : C. L. Ong
Download or read book Prediction of Heat Transfer in a Rotating Cavity with a Radial Outflow written by C. L. Ong and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Solutions of the differential boundary-layer equations, using the Keller-box scheme and the Cebeci-Smith eddy-viscosity model for turbulent flow, have been used to predict the Nusselt numbers on the disks of a heated rotating cavity with a radial outflow of cooling air. Computed Nusselt numbers were in satisfactory agreement with analytical solutions of the elliptic equations for laminar flow and with solutions of the integral equations for turbulent flow. For a wide range of flow rates, rotational speeds, and disk-temperature profiles, the computed Nusselt numbers were in mainly good agreement with measurements obtained from an air-cooled rotating cavity. It is concluded that the boundary-layer equations should provide solutions accurate enough for application to air-cooled gas turbine disks.
Book Synopsis Modelling of Convective Heat and Mass Transfer in Rotating Flows by : Igor V. Shevchuk
Download or read book Modelling of Convective Heat and Mass Transfer in Rotating Flows written by Igor V. Shevchuk and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-07-24 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph presents results of the analytical and numerical modeling of convective heat and mass transfer in different rotating flows caused by (i) system rotation, (ii) swirl flows due to swirl generators, and (iii) surface curvature in turns and bends. Volume forces (i.e. centrifugal and Coriolis forces), which influence the flow pattern, emerge in all of these rotating flows. The main part of this work deals with rotating flows caused by system rotation, which includes several rotating-disk configurations and straight pipes rotating about a parallel axis. Swirl flows are studied in some of the configurations mentioned above. Curvilinear flows are investigated in different geometries of two-pass ribbed and smooth channels with 180° bends. The author demonstrates that the complex phenomena of fluid flow and convective heat transfer in rotating flows can be successfully simulated using not only the universal CFD methodology, but in certain cases by means of the integral methods, self-similar and analytical solutions. The book will be a valuable read for research experts and practitioners in the field of heat and mass transfer.
