Book Synopsis National Integration in Indonesia by : Christine Drake
Download or read book National Integration in Indonesia written by Christine Drake and published by University of Hawaii Press. This book was released on 2019-03-31 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Indonesia's great size and diversity and its history of regional dissension have made its struggle for national integration particularly complex. Christine Drake presents an informed and balanced picture of past and present developments in this struggle, offering readers a realistic assessment of the current status and future prospects of national integration in Indonesia. By addressing historical, political, social, and economic issues in conjunction with statistical analysis, Professor Drake argues that the spatial pattern of integration is far more complex than the commonly accepted core-periphery model of Indonesian integration and development. The author examines the effectiveness of Indonesian government policies in promoting national integration and concludes that in general they have led to greater national unity, although many serious problems remain.

This book was released on 1987 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Indonesia is the world's fifth most populous nation. Its population is still growing at 2 per cent per annum and will exceed 200 million in another 10 years' time. This is the first detailed analysis of population growth in Indonesia as it affects national development, written by 4 authors whohave been intimately involved in population research and planning in Indonesia over the past 15 years. The book takes an historical approach in recognition of the continuities between problems of population growth and distribution in colonial times, and those faced today. Because of the remarkablediversity of Indonesia, a regional approach is also stressed, and regional differences are highlighted through the skilful use of maps.

Book Synopsis Southeast Asia (Routledge Revivals) by : Jonathan Rigg
Download or read book Southeast Asia (Routledge Revivals) written by Jonathan Rigg and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-09-13 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Southeast Asia: A Region in Transition, first published in 1991, is a contemporary human geography of the ‘market’ economies of the region usually defined by membership of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Organized thematically, the chapters deal with the environment and development, plural societies, agrarian change and urbanization. This thematic approach provides a comprehensive picture of the ASEAN countries and gives a depth of coverage often lacking in other regional geographies. With a detailed introduction dealing with the physical environment and history of the region, this work will be of great value to students studying the human geography of Southeast Asia, as well as those with a more general interest in the issues and developments affecting the ASEAN region.
