These selected paragraphs distill the contents and give you a quick look inside Comparative Studies in Nursery Rhymes: Look inside the book: Pg 4 Thomas Fleet, a well-known printer of Boston, Mass., who was from Shropshire, is said to have issued a collection of nursery rhymes under the following title, Songs for the Nursery, or Mother Goose's Melodies for Children, printed by Thomas Fleet at his printing-house, Pudding Lane, 1719, price two coppers.... 4 John Fleet Eliot, a great-grandson of the printer, accepted its existence, and in 1834 wrote with regard to it as follows: 'It is well known to antiquaries that more than a hundred years ago there was a small book in circulation in London bearing the name of Rhymes for the Nursery or Lulla-Byes for Children, which contained many of the identical pieces of Mother Goose's Melodies of the present day. ...It may be added that the nursery collection of 1810 (p. 37) contains the first verse only of Mother Hubbard, which favours the view expressed by Halliwell, that the compiler of the famous book did not invent the subject nor the metre of his piece, but wrote additional verses to an older story.

Book excerpt: NEW PRINT WITH PROFESSIONAL TYPE-SET IN CONTRAST TO SCANNED PRINTS OFFERED BY OTHERS Comparative Studies In Nursery Rhymes This book is a result of an effort made by us towards making a contribution to the preservation and repair of original classic literature. In an attempt to preserve, improve and recreate the original content, we have worked towards: 1. Type-setting & Reformatting: The complete work has been re-designed via professional layout, formatting and type-setting tools to re-create the same edition with rich typography, graphics, high quality images, and table elements, giving our readers the feel of holding a 'fresh and newly' reprinted and/or revised edition, as opposed to other scanned & printed (Optical Character Recognition - OCR) reproductions. 2. Correction of imperfections: As the work was re-created from the scratch, therefore, it was vetted to rectify certain conventional norms with regard to typographical mistakes, hyphenations, punctuations, blurred images, missing content/pages, and/or other related subject matters, upon our consideration. Every attempt was made to rectify the imperfections related to omitted constructs in the original edition via other references. However, a few of such imperfections which could not be rectified due to intentional\unintentional omission of content in the original edition, were inherited and preserved from the original work to maintain the authenticity and construct, relevant to the work. We believe that this work holds historical, cultural and/or intellectual importance in the literary works community, therefore despite the oddities, we accounted the work for print as a part of our continuing effort towards preservation of literary work and our contribution towards the development of the society as a whole, driven by our beliefs. We are grateful to our readers for putting their faith in us and accepting our imperfections with regard to preservation of the historical content. HAPPY READING!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bring an experience from your childhood back or pass the joy of nursery rhymes on to the next generation with this fantastic illustrated collection. The Big Book of Nursery Rhymes contains a huge array of rhymes and songs, enough to satisfy any reader. It has all the most popular rhymes and is a great resource for anyone who remembers these charming parts of childhood but has less than perfect recall of them. As is natural with an originally oral tradition some of the versions here may be slightly different to the ones you remember from childhood, additionally some are greatly extended from the simple versions we remember to a full length rhyme. Most of us remember Simple Simon met a pie man going to the fair, but few probably know that once Simon made a great snowball and brought it in to roast. This is just one extra verse of many from the full length nursery rhyme. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. This book was released on 2017-12-05 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Nursery Rhymes of England The nursery rhyme is the novel and light reading of the infant scholar. It occupies, with respect to the A B C, the position of a romance which relieves the mind from the cares of a riper age. The absurdity and fri volity of a rhyme may naturally be its chief attractions to the very young; and there will be something lost from the imagination of that child, whose parents insist so much on matters of fact, that the cow must be made, in compliance with the rules of their educational code, to jump under instead of over the moon; while of course the little dog must be considered as barking, not laughing at the circumstance. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Popular Rhymes and Nursery Tales: A Sequel to the Nursery Rhymes of England IT were greatly to be desired that the instructors of our children could be persuaded how much is lost by rejecting the venerable relics of nursery traditional literature, and substituting in their place the present cold, unimaginative, - I had almost said, unnatural, prosaic good-boy stories. In the latter case, oh serves Sir Walter Scott, their minds are, as it were, put into the stocks, like their feet at the dancing-school, and the moral always consists in good conduct being crowned with success. Truth is, I would not give one tear shed over Little Red Riding Hood for all the benefit to be derived from a hundred histories of J emmy Goodchild. I think the selfish tendencies will be soon enough acquired in this arithmetical age; and that, to make the higher class of character, our own wild fictions - like our own simple music - will have more effect in awakening the fancy and elevating the disposition, than the colder and more elaborate compositions of modern authors and composers.
