Book excerpt: Hydrocarbon Phase Behavior modelling is extremely important in the characterization of fluids because this helps in obtaining fluid properties that are important in the design and optimization of various production processes and facilities. These fluid properties were initially obtained through laboratory measurements until the introduction of cubic equations of state which provided fairly accurate results in less time. A major drawback of cubic equations of state is measurement of liquid densities. This is extremely important when dealing with reservoir fluids such as gas condensates which exhibit a retrograde behavior of splitting into gas and liquid phases during isothermal expansion. The goal of this study is to develop a tool that will be able to detect when a hydrocarbon mixture undergoes a phase split and also be able to provide a more accurate prediction of condensate properties than the presently used Equations of state. This tool is developed by the incorporation of a newly developed equation of state into flash calculations and the predictions made are not only compared to experimental values but also to the predictions made by the popular two parameter, Peng-Robinson (PR) and three parameter Patel-Tejas (PR) equations of state. The new equation of state proved to be more accurate in the prediction of the composition, density and viscosity of the liquid phase when compared to Peng-Robinson and It also showed great accuracy in the predictions of these properties at higher temperatures, where Patel-Teja failed to excel.

Book Synopsis Equations of State for Fluids and Fluid Mixtures by : J.V. Sengers
Download or read book Equations of State for Fluids and Fluid Mixtures written by J.V. Sengers and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2000-10-30 with total page 455 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has been prepared under the auspices of Commission I.2 on Thermodynamics of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC). The authors of the 18 chapters are all recognized experts in the field. The book gives an up-to-date presentation of equations of state for fluids and fluid mixtures. All principal approaches for developing equations of state are covered. The theoretical basis and practical use of each type of equation is discussed and the strength and weaknesses of each is addressed. Topics addressed include the virial equation of state, cubic equations and generalized van der Waals equations, perturbation theory, integral equations, corresponding stated and mixing rules. Special attention is also devoted to associating fluids, polydisperse fluids, polymer systems, self-assembled systems, ionic fluids and fluids near critical points.
Book Synopsis New Approaches to Problems in Liquid State Theory by : Carlo Caccamo

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 527 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory of simple and complex fluids has made considerable recent progress, due to the emergence of new concepts and theoretical tools, and also to the availability of a large body of new experimental data on increas ingly complex systems, as well as far-reaching methodological developments in numerical simulations. This AS! aimed at providing a comprehensive overview of the most significant theoretical developments, supplemented by a few presentations of cutting-edge simulation and experimental work. The impact of the Institute in the overall landscape of Statistical Mechanics received an important recognition with its inclusion in the list of satellite events of STATPHYS20, the triennal international conference on Statistical Physics held in Paris in July 1998. These Proceedings contain the texts of the 13 Lecture Courses and 9 Invited Seminars delivered at Patti. Two clear trends emerge from these Proceedings: first, the diversity of new and unexpected theoretical results relating to classic models of liq uids, which have recently been subjected to fresh scrutiny; and secondly the parallel emergence of new concepts, models and methods, aimed at investigating complex fluids and phenomena, like the phase behaviour of fluids in pores, macromolecular assemblies, and the glass transition. Many of the new tools have their roots in traditional liquid state theory, and, in conjunction with fresh input from related fields, allow it wider applicability.

Book Synopsis Asphaltene Deposition by : Francisco M. Vargas
Download or read book Asphaltene Deposition written by Francisco M. Vargas and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-05-16 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As global consumption of fossil fuels such as oil increases, previously abundant sources have become depleted or plagued with obstructions. Asphaltene deposition is one of such obstructions which can significantly decrease the rate of oil production. This book offers concise yet thorough coverage of the complex problem of asphaltene precipitation and deposition in oil production. It covers fundamentals of chemistry, stabilization theories and mechanistic approaches of asphaltene behavior at high temperature and pressure. Asphaltene Deposition: Fundamentals, Prediction, Prevention, and Remediation explains techniques for experimental determination of asphaltene precipitation and deposition and different modeling tools available to forecast the occurrence and magnitude of asphaltene deposition in a given oil field. It discusses strategies for mitigation of asphaltene deposition using chemical inhibition and corresponding challenges, best practices for asphaltene remediation, current research, and case studies.
