Download or read book Common Mistakes Made by Esl Learners Using Arabic as Reference Language written by Dr. M. Solainman Ali and published by Author House. This book was released on 2013-02-06 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Purpose and Scope: This text has been produced to alert learners of English using Arabic as L1 to the most typical problem areas that tend to hinder their progress as they endeavor to overcome native language interference in the process of growing into the target language. The functions of capitalization and syntax have received special emphasis. The analytical perspective takes precedence over its pedagogical counterpart. Learner Focus: The primary readership is expected to grow beyond Arabic speakers per se and is most likely to include learners using Farsi, Urdu, or Turkish as L1. In addition, even a broad spectrum of learners using reference languages with various different alphabets (e.g. Bengali, Hangul, Hebrew, Hindi, Japanese, Mandarin) will find the text useful to a considerable extent. Appendices: The exercises included in the three appendices are ambitiously written and intended to reveal to the learner the formidable amount of lexical material that will have to be internalized on the road to solid proficiency. ESL instructors teaching Arabic speakers are aware of the difficult and time-consuming effort involved in the acquisition of vocabulary.
Book Synopsis Interlanguage Error Analysis: an Appropriate and Effective Pedagogy for Efl Learners in the Arab World by : Muhammad Khan Abdul Malik
Download or read book Interlanguage Error Analysis: an Appropriate and Effective Pedagogy for Efl Learners in the Arab World written by Muhammad Khan Abdul Malik and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2020-05-31 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First of all the author wants to make it crystal clear that the present work is of a great benefit both for the English and Arab learners of the target language either Arabic or English. This edition of the book pinpoints previous researchers' findings regarding English and Arabic phonological, morphological and syntactic similarities and differences and how all these differences result in mistakes and errors by the Arab learners of English in their learning process. These mistakes or errors are unconsciously or involuntarily made by Arab learners of English due to the differences between the system and sub-systems of the two languages. The present attempt is the result of my realization as an English language teacher as to how a teacher can minimize students difficulties in learning of English and maximize their knowledge, skills and competency of English as a foreign or second language. This is the first edition. The work is pedagogically oriented and primarily intended to make teaching-learning of English as a foreign/second language a bit easy especially for the first-year university students of English language in the Arab world: (Gulf area such as KSA, UAE, Kuwait, and the Middle East Area, such as Jordan, Syria, Lebanon and so on). The focus is on phonetic and morpho-syntactic variations in Arabic and English languages. This area of research becomes more interesting through the assumptions – (i) information about the differences and similarities between Arabic and English language is to be supplied at an early stage since this facilitates the students learning task, (ii) the differences are to be presented in pedagogically suitable format, (iii) it is useful to separate and present phonetics, morphological and syntactic categories as they function in suitable contexts and not merely abstract notions, (iv) before students may tackle contrastive analysis, they should have basic knowledge of Arabic and English languages similarities and differences and (v) pre-modification and post-modification of lexical and syntactic structures are to be explained appropriately.

Download or read book The English Writing System written by Vivian J Cook and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: English is increasingly becoming the world's lingua franca. If we are not native speakers of one of the many varieties of English, then we may be students of English, or use English regularly for academic or business purposes. The English Language series, which is international in focus, aims to synthesize the wealth of existing linguistic research both on and in English. Each volume in the series is designed to present these findings in an accessible, enlightening and entertaining way not only to students of English linguistics but to learners and users of English across the globe. The English Writing System describes how writing is not simply ancillary to other aspects of language but vitally important to almost everything we do, from signing our wills to sending a text message. This book discusses the mechanics of the writing systems of English; the different ways people process words on a page and the mistakes they can make; how children and second language learners acquire these systems; the historical development of the language and the progress of writing technology: in short, the effectiveness of the writing systems of English. Combining an academic perspective from linguistics and psychology with insights into everyday spelling mistakes, The English Writing System will interest students and teachers of linguistics, literature, the English language, psychology and education.

Book Synopsis Errors in English Pronunciation Among Arabic Speakers by : MOHAMED FATHY. KHALIFA

This book was released on 2020-02-02 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a contrastive analysis of Arabsâ (TM) errors in English pronunciation regarding segmentalsâ "consonants, consonant clusters, and vowelsâ "and suprasegmentalsâ "main word stress. It also explains the main interlingual reasons behind these errors, and presents some teaching suggestions for surmounting them. The findings show that the subjects substitute their own Arabic sounds for unfamiliar English ones, producing incorrect English sounds. In addition, they apply Arabic main word stress rules instead of English ones, producing incorrect English stress patterns. The book also shows that English sounds and stress patterns that are both different and more marked than corresponding Arabic ones caused learning difficulties for the subjects.
