In The Importance of Worshiping Together, author Shamblin Stone explains why it's important for Christians to worship God together with others from a Biblical perspective. It explains God's reasons for unified, group worship and talks about how to protect, build, and maintain human relationships so worship isn't hindered. Book Synopsis Portrait of a Worshiper by : Shamblin Stone
Download or read book Portrait of a Worshiper written by Shamblin Stone and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2018-02-14 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every person who has ever lived has wrestled with the question of the purpose of human life. Stone answers that question definitively with the Word of God that mankinds purpose for existence is to be to the praise of His/Gods glory (Ephesians 1:14). Since that is Gods purpose for us, then the way God designed and created us has everything to do with us accomplishing that purpose. This book examines in detail how God made us in His likeness and image and how every part of us is necessary to accomplish Gods purpose for us. The book also looks into Gods redemption plan to redeem all parts of a human being so that we can fulfill the purpose for which we were created. Finally, this book explains how each part of our humanity functions when we obey Gods purpose for our existence and worship Him.
Book Synopsis When You Come Together by : Amy S. Anderson
Download or read book When You Come Together written by Amy S. Anderson and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2011-04-01 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: WHEN YOU COME TOGETHER brings us back to primitive theological truths such as the church as family, the body with its interconnected parts and the presence of the Holy Spirit, Who delights to reveal God's heart and mind to His gathered people. Amy Anderson contends that belonging to God's people should involve us all in something less like a music concert and more like a jazz session--with every person participating as an essential instrument, following a common thread while also expecting the Holy Spirit to weave new themes into the established patterns. Anderson provides a nitty-gritty guide to both why and how we can ditch the concert paradigm and instead learn to gather alertly in God's presence, allowing Him to speak in our midst and turn our lives upside-down.

Book Synopsis Seeing and savouring Jesus Christ by : JOHN PIPER
Download or read book Seeing and savouring Jesus Christ written by JOHN PIPER and published by Inter-Varsity Press. This book was released on 2020-05-21 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who is Jesus Christ? You've never met Him in person, and you don't know anyone who has. But there is a way to know who he is. How? Jesus Christ - the divine Person revealed in the Bible - has a unique excellence and a spiritual beauty that speaks directly to our souls and says, "Yes, this is truth." It's like seeing the sun and knowing that it is light, or tasting honey and knowing that it is sweet. The depth and complexity of Jesus shatter our simple mental frameworks. He baffled proud scribes with his wisdom but was understood and loved by children. He calmed a raging storm with a word but would not get himself down from the cross. Look at the Jesus of the Bible. Keep your eyes open, and fill them with the portrait of Jesus in God's Word. Jesus said, "If anyone's will is to do God's will, He will know whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking on my own authority." Ask God for the grace to do His will, and you will see the truth of His Son. John Piper has written this book in the hope that all will see Jesus for who he really is and will come to enjoy him above all else.
Book Synopsis Unceasing Worship by : Harold M. Best
Download or read book Unceasing Worship written by Harold M. Best and published by InterVarsity Press. This book was released on 2009-08-20 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of Discerning Reader's Best Books We are not created to worship. Nor are we created for worship. We are created worshiping. Too often Christians have only thought of worship in terms of particular musical styles or liturgical formats. But a proper view of worship is far larger than what takes place in churches on Sunday mornings. Worship is not limited to specific times, places or activities. God is by his very nature continuously outpouring himself. Because we are created in his image, we too are continually pouring ourselves in various directions, whether toward God or toward false gods. All of us, Christian or not, are always worshiping, whether or not that worship is directed toward God. We are unceasing worshipers. The fruition of a lifetime of study, reflection and experience, this volume sets forth Harold M. Best's understanding of worship and the arts. Widely respected as one of the foremost thinkers and practitioners in his field, Best explores the full scope of worship as continuous outpouring in all settings and contexts. With careful exposition and eloquent analysis, Best casts a holistic vision for worship that transcends narrow discussions of musical style or congregational preference. On this broader canvas, Best addresses popular misunderstandings about the use of music and offers correctives toward a more biblically consistent practice of artistic action. Incisive, biblical, profound and comprehensive, Best's landmark volume is one by which all other statements on worship and the arts will be measured.
Book Synopsis Still Time to Care by : Greg Johnson
Download or read book Still Time to Care written by Greg Johnson and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2021-12-07 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the start of the gay rights movement in 1969, evangelicalism's leading voices cast a vision for gay people who turn to Jesus. It was C.S. Lewis, Billy Graham, Francis Schaeffer and John Stott who were among the most respected leaders within theologically orthodox Protestantism. We see with them a positive pastoral approach toward gay people, an approach that viewed homosexuality as a fallen condition experienced by some Christians who needed care more than cure. With the birth and rise of the ex-gay movement, the focus shifted from care to cure. As a result, there are an estimated 700,000 people alive today who underwent conversion therapy in the United States alone. Many of these patients were treated by faith-based, testimony-driven parachurch ministries centered on the ex-gay script. Despite the best of intentions, the movement ended with very troubling results. Yet the ex-gay movement died not because it had the wrong sex ethic. It died because it was founded on a practice that diminished the beauty of the gospel. Yet even after the closure of the ex-gay umbrella organization Exodus International in 2013, the ex-gay script continues to walk about as the undead among us, pressuring people like me to say, "I used to be gay, but I'm not gay anymore. Now I'm just same-sex attracted." For orthodox Christians, the way forward is a path back to where we were forty years ago. It is time again to focus with our Neo-Evangelical fathers on care--not cure--for our non-straight sisters and brothers who are living lives of costly obedience to Jesus. With warmth and humor as well as original research, Still Time to Care will chart the path forward for our churches and ministries in providing care. It will provide guidance for the gay person who hears the gospel and finds themselves smitten by the life-giving call of Jesus. Woven throughout the book will be Richard Lovelace’s 1978 call for a "double repentance" in which gay Christians repent of their homosexual sins and the church repents of its homophobia--putting on display for all the power of the gospel.
Download or read book Praying Together written by Megan Hill and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2016-04-14 with total page 111 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nearly all Christians would affirm the centrality of prayer for a healthy Christian life. And yet, for many, prayer is often a challenge, requiring intense personal commitment and self-discipline. However, as Megan Hill points out in Praying Together, our normal approach to prayer leaves out a crucial component: other people. While personal prayer is important, God designed the church to be a community of believers who regularly pray together. Exploring the Bible's rich teaching on what it means to gather at God's throne with one voice, Hill lays a theological foundation for corporate prayer and offers practical guidance for making it a reality—in our families, churches, and communities.

Download or read book Battling Unbelief written by John Piper and published by Multnomah. This book was released on 2009-01-16 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pastor John Piper shows how to sever the clinging roots of sin that ensnare us, including anxiety, pride, shame, impatience, covetousness, bitterness, despondency, and lust in Battling Unbelief. When faith flickers, stoke the fire. No one sins out of duty. We sin because it offers some promise of happiness. That promise enslaves us, until we believe that God is more desirable than life itself (Psalm 63:3). Only the power of God’s superior promises in the gospel can emancipate our hearts from servitude to the shallow promises and fleeting pleasures of sin. Delighting in the bounty of God’s glorious gospel promises will free us for a less sin-encumbered life, to the glory of Christ. Rooted in solid biblical reflection, this book aims to help guide you through the battles to the joys of victory by the power of the gospel and its superior pleasure.

Book Synopsis Worship by the Book by : Rev. Mark Ashton
Download or read book Worship by the Book written by Rev. Mark Ashton and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2010-06-01 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “What is at stake is authenticity. . . . Sooner or later Christians tire of public meetings that are profoundly inauthentic, regardless of how well (or poorly) arranged, directed, performed. We long to meet, corporately, with the living and majestic God and to offer him the praise that is his due.”—D. A. CarsonWorship is a hot topic, but the ways that Christians from different traditions view it vary greatly. What is worship? More important, what does it look like in action, both in our corporate gatherings and in our daily lives? These concerns—the blending of principle and practice—are what Worship by the Book addresses.Cutting through cultural clichés, D. A. Carson, Mark Ashton, Kent Hughes, and Timothy Keller explore, respectively:· Worship Under the Word· Following in Cranmer’s Footsteps· Free Church Worship: The Challenge of Freedom· Reformed Worship in the Global City “This is not a comprehensive theology of worship,” writes Carson. “Still less is it a sociological analysis of current trends or a minister’s manual chockfull of ‘how to’ instructions.” Rather, this book offers pastors, other congregational leaders, and seminary students a thought-provoking biblical theology of worship, followed by a look at how three very different traditions of churchmanship might move from this theological base to a better understanding of corporate worship. Running the gamut from biblical theology to historical assessment all the way to sample service sheets, Worship by the Book shows how local churches in diverse traditions can foster corporate worship that is God-honoring, Word-revering, heartfelt, and historically and culturally informed.

It's by the design of a Creator who knew what he was doing when he made you according to his own unique intentions. If your spiritual walk is not what you'd like it to be, you can change that, starting here.
