Book excerpt: What happens when a tiny church in Okole arises to question the authenticity of the prophecies they have been hearing? When they gather to ponder on why there seems to be all talk and no fulfilment of promises. How do they bring back their sons and daughters who have been lost to the grip of unfulfilled prophecies, war and financial pressure in strange land? Will the gospel with which these children have been nurtured work for them in the marketplace of different cultural settings? An unexpected turn of events unleashes an avalanche of bitterness and joy, sorrow and laughter, despair and ecstasy and of course unending love. All these come together to create a tale you will not forget; as these believers invade their Babylons, stop decay in the nations, receive promises and rewrite history.

Book excerpt: I began the study of the subject of Christ's second coming and the end times in detail with much prayer and study. I must say that I have been intrigued with the book of Revelation for years. Through those years I have been rotating from position to position in reference to pre-trib, mid-trib and post-tribulation. As I would read various scriptures, they would seem to contradict each other and point to a specific, yet different time for the return of Christ on the clouds to gather His saints. Perhaps you, too, have been confused about the timing of the second coming of Jesus and the end times. Maybe you, too, have changed your position a few times depending on the various scriptures you happen to be reading at the time. Or, is there a chance that you hold a particular position, but if pressed to support it, welllll In addition to our own confusions and variations, there are the traditional beliefs and doctrines within the various churches that differ as much as the churches themselves. I have asked questions to pastors, deacons, Sunday School teachers and other faithful saints and have received widely differing opinions about this subject. There were none who could entirely support their positions with scriptures that did not conflict with their own opinions. The usual final response from all I have spoken with goes somewhat like this: ""Well, these things are just not meant to be understood at this time."" UNTIL NOW, at least for me. This book shares with specific scriptural documentation that will remove all confusion about timing of the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. I hope you are blessed by it. "
Book Synopsis The Language of God by : Francis Collins
Download or read book The Language of God written by Francis Collins and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2008-09-04 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr Francis S. Collins, head of the Human Genome Project, is one of the world's leading scientists, working at the cutting edge of the study of DNA, the code of life. Yet he is also a man of unshakable faith in God. How does he reconcile the seemingly unreconcilable? In THE LANGUAGE OF GOD he explains his own journey from atheism to faith, and then takes the reader on a stunning tour of modern science to show that physics, chemistry and biology -- indeed, reason itself -- are not incompatible with belief. His book is essential reading for anyone who wonders about the deepest questions of all: why are we here? How did we get here? And what does life mean?

Download or read book Church of Cowards written by Matt Walsh and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2020-02-25 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What Would You Surrender for God? Christians in the Middle East, in much of Asia, and in Africa are still being martyred for the faith, but how many American Christians are willing to lay down their smartphones, let alone their lives, for the faith? Being a Christian in America doesn’t require much these days. Suburban megachurches are more like entertainment venues than places to worship God. The lives that American “Christians” lead aren’t much different from those of their atheist neighbors, and their knowledge of theology isn’t much better either. Matt Walsh of The Daily Wire exposes the pitiful state of Christianity in America today, lays out the stakes for us, our families, and our eternal salvation, and invites us to a faith that’s a lot less easy and comfortable—but that’s more real and actually worth something. The spiritual junk food we’re stuffing ourselves with is never going to satisfy. As St. Augustine said over a millennium ago, our hearts are restless until they rest in Him. Only God Himself can make our lives anything but ultimately meaningless and empty. And we will never get anywhere near Him if we refuse to take up our cross and follow Jesus. This rousing call to the real adventure of a living faith is a wake-up call to complacent Christians and a rallying cry for anyone dissatisfied with a lukewarm faith.

Book Synopsis Time to Wake up Church! by : Rabi Gunaratnam
Download or read book Time to Wake up Church! written by Rabi Gunaratnam and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2016-02-26 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The contention of this book is that the church is not being what it should be to the world as a result of tolerating false or misleading teachings. We need to examine what we have absorbed and get back to the basics of our faith, if we are to live right and be a stronger, more powerful influence in this world. Twelve fundamental topics are discussed with review questions for personal contemplation or for group discussion. My prayer is that the Holy Spirit will help us see the truth through the scriptures that we examine, and that we will understand things the way they were meant to be understood. There is no guarantee that everyone will come to the same conclusions as a result of the scriptures and arguments presented in this book. But this book would achieve its purpose if it results in some serious discussion and questioning of our current understanding and results in some positive changes.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Mission is not the ultimate goal of the church. Worship is. Missions exist because worship doesn't. Worship is ultimate.' John Piper's contemporary classic draws on key biblical texts to demonstrate that worship is the ultimate goal of the church and that proper worship fuels missionary outreach. Piper offers a biblical defence of God's supremacy in all things, providing a sound theological foundation for missions. He examines whether Jesus is the only way to salvation and issues a passionate plea for God-centredness in the missionary enterprise, seeking to define the scope of the task and the means for reaching 'all nations'. Let the Nations Be Glad! is a trusted resource for missionaries, pastors, church leaders, youth workers, seminary students, and all who want to connect their labours to God's global purposes. This third edition has been revised and expanded throughout and includes new material on the 'prosperity gospel'.
Book Synopsis Donkeys in the Biblical World by : Kenneth C. Way
Download or read book Donkeys in the Biblical World written by Kenneth C. Way and published by Penn State Press. This book was released on 2011-06-23 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this volume, Kenneth Way explores the role of donkeys in the symbolism and ceremonies of the biblical world. His study stands alone in providing a comprehensive examination of donkeys in ancient Near Eastern texts, the archaeological record, and the Hebrew Bible. Way demonstrates that donkeys held a distinct status in the beliefs and rituals of the ancient Near East and especially Canaan-Israel. The focus on ceremony and symbol encompasses social and religious thoughts and practices that are reflected in ancient texts and material culture relating to the donkey. Ceremonial considerations include matters of sacrifice, treaty ratification, consumption, death, burial, “scapegoat” rituals, and foundation deposits; symbolic considerations include matters of characterization, association, function, behavior, and iconographic depiction. However, the distinction between ceremony and symbol is not strict. In many cases, these two categories are symbiotic. The need for this study on donkeys is very apparent in the disciplines that study the biblical world. There is not a single monograph or article that treats this subject comprehensively. Philologists have discussed the meaning of the Amorite phrase “to kill a jackass,” and archaeologists have discussed the phenomenon of equid burials. But until now, neither philologists nor archaeologists have attempted to pull together all the ceremonial and symbolic data on donkeys from burials, ancient Near Eastern texts, and the Hebrew Bible. Way’s study fills this void.
