Book excerpt: "These proceedings contain selected topics covering various fields of collective motion and nuclear dynamics, ranging from low to high energies, from nuclear structure to reaction mechanisms, from regular stable to chaotic systems, and from fragmentation to fusion. Several ways of investigating the nuclear systems are presented: electron scattering radioactive beams, fragmenting projectiles, beta and double beta decays, and cluster emission. Their behaviour, under some extreme situations such as superdeformation, high spin states, high temperature, and relativisitic energy, is described within various theoretical formalisms."--Publisher's website.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last decade one of the most active areas of research in nuclear physics has been the study of systems of nucleons in various dynamical situations. Heavy-ion collisions at beam energies in the range 30-150 MeV per nucleon, where subnucleaonic degrees of freedom can be considered as frozen, allow such systems to be studied in detail. Nuclear Dynamics in the Nucleonic Regime summarizes our current understanding of this branch of physics. The authors follow the course of typical heavy-ion collisions through time and discuss each stage of the collisions. By presenting experimental and theoretical understanding, a clear picture of the physics can be presented.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Band Structure and Nuclear Dynamics contains a compilation of papers that were presented at the International Conference on Band Structure and Nuclear Dynamics. This volume examines the relationships between phenomenological models, such as the VMI, IBA and Bohr-Mottelson models, and it discusses the attempts to provide microscopic foundations for these models. It also reviews other boson expansion techniques. The book includes the experiments on rotating nuclei, which indicate that different phases, shapes, and angular momentum coupling schemes are suitable for different spin regions and different bands; and the HFB-cranking model, which provides a theoretical framework for the interpretation of these rotational phenomena. This volume is subdivided into six parts. The first part focuses on phenomenological collective models, including the theory of nuclear collective motion, VMI and other related models, and the boson-fermion model. Part two discusses strongly deformed nuclei, including the band structure and the structure of the collective bands in it from a microscopic point of view. This part also presents the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov theory and the application of the cranking model to Yb bands and band crossings. The third part focuses on transitional nuclei and covers IBA models, symmetric rotor interpretation of interpretation of transitional nuclei, electromagnetic properties of excited bands, and boson models. Part four describes the very high spin states and its Nilsson-Strutinsky model and self-consistent theory. Part five includes three special topics and Part six concludes by providing topics for a round-table discussion.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a comprehensive survey of basic elements of nuclear dynamics at low energies and discusses similarities to mesoscopic systems. It addresses systems with finite excitations of their internal degrees of freedom, so that their collective motion exhibits features typical for transport processes in small and isolated systems. The importance of quantum aspects is examined with respect to both the microscopic damping mechanism and the nature of the transport equations. The latter must account for the fact that the collective motion is self-sustained. This implies highly nonlinear couplings between internal and collective degrees of freedom —- different to assumptions made in treatments known in the literature. A critical discussion of the use of thermal concepts is presented. The book can be considered self-contained. It presents existing models, theories and theoretical tools, both from nuclear physics and other fields, which are relevant to an understanding of the observed physical phenomena.

Book excerpt: The scope of the international meeting covered a broad range of the recent developments in nuclear physics, from heavy-ion collisions from Coulomb barrier through relativisitc energies (using stable and radioactive beams), to some applications of nuclear physics and other research fields. The lectures given at the meeting range from the most recent progress to future prospects in nuclear physics research. This volume focuses on recent developments in nuclear physics, with emphasis on the investigation of processes connected with large-amplitude collective motion in nuclei, such as heavy-ion fusion, giant multipole resonances, and nuclear fission and fragmentation.

Book excerpt: The articles published in this volume discuss nuclear dynamics using two approaches: the semiclassical aspects of the nuclear system and group theoretical considerations. The contributions cover experimental and theoretical results. The features of the borders between classical and quantum mechanical treatments, static and time-dependent behaviour, symmetries and broken symmetries, symmetries and dynamics, scattering states and group theory structure, fission and decay modes were also focused upon by very competent speakers. The volume concludes with two summary talks by A. Klein on theoretical and P. von Brentano on experimental aspects. The Brasov-School addressed researchers and graduate students also.
