Book Synopsis The Austrian Codification of Administrative Procedure by : Giacinto della Cananea
Download or read book The Austrian Codification of Administrative Procedure written by Giacinto della Cananea and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2023-02-04 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book argues that the development of administrative law in Europe owes much to Austria, not only because its Administrative Court was one of the first to define and refine general principles, such as legality, due process and general interest, but also because in 1925 Austria adopted a general law of administrative procedure, which had important consequences for other legal systems. The book follows two themes. The first is the Austrian codification of administrative procedure itself. The second is the spread of Austrian ideas and institutions to some neighbouring countries. From the first point of view, the book points out the various factors that favoured the adoption of administrative procedure legislation and the reception of the model of review. In this respect, the book is enriched by the English translation of the Austrian general act of 1925. From the other viewpoint, the book deviates from the standard accounts whereby the Austrian codification had some influence on its closest neighbours, including Poland, Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia; first, because it compares their legislative provisions, as well as their durability, notwithstanding drastic political changes, when these countries fell under Soviet rule; second, because it does not limit itself to the concept of 'influence', arguing that there was a 'diffusion' of general administrative procedure legislation; thirdly, because it examines why the major administrative systems of continental Europe, such as France, Germany and Italy, did not adopt administrative procedure legislation. The book thus provides an unprecedented outlook on the emergence of an increasing common core regarding administrative procedure.

Book Synopsis Monarchs, Ministers, and Maps by : David Buisseret

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These diverse essays investigate political factors behind the rapid development of cartography in Renaissance Europe and its impact on emerging European nations. By 1500 a few rulers had already discovered that better knowledge of their lands would strengthen their control over them; by 1550, the cartographer's art had become an important instrument for bringing territories under the control of centralized government. Throughout the following century increasing governmental reliance on maps demanded greater accuracy and more sophisticated techniques. This volume, a detailed survey of the political uses of cartography between 1400 and 1700 in Europe, answers these questions: When did monarchs and ministers begin to perceive that maps could be useful in government? For what purposes were maps commissioned? How accurate and useful were they? How did cartographic knowledge strengthen the hand of government? By focusing on particular places and periods in early modern Europe, the chapters offer new insights into the growth of cartography as a science, the impetus behind these developments - often rulers attempting to expand their power - and the role of mapmaking in European history. The essay on Poland reveals that cartographic progress came only under the impetus of powerful rulers; another explores the French monarchy's role in the burst of scientific cartography that marked the opening of the "splendid century". Additional chapters discuss the profound influence of cartographic ideas on the English aristocracy during the sixteenth century, the relation of progress in mapmaking to imperialistic goals of the Spanish and Austrian Habsburgs, and the supposed primacy of Italian mapmakingfollowing the Renaissance. Contributors to this volume are Peter Barber, David Buisseret, John Marino, Michael J. Mikos, Geoffrey Parker, and James Vann. These essays were originally presented as the Kenneth Nebenzahl, Jr., Lectures in the History of Cartography at the Newberry Library.

This book was released on 2017-12-15 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The European Administrative Space can be understood broadly as a space of European public administration and may be the subject of administrative science, a multidisciplinary science, in its concerns entered the classical concept of Staatswissenschaften elements: public law, political science and public economies. European structure can be analyzed from the perspective of these areas that are studied in different proportions also in the national university curricula. In a narrow sense we can speak of administrative law governing this European space. The notion of European administrative space can be thought modeled on European economic and social space, being connected with the legal system-wide cooperation. Traditionally, a common administrative space is possible when a set of legal principles, rules and regulations are respected uniformly in a territory covered by a national constitution. Thus we can speak of each sovereign state administrative law. The issue a law on public administration which fits all sovereign states that joined the EU was debated intensely since the establishment of the European Community. This book is edited with the support of the Romanian Ministry of Research and Innovation.
