Book Synopsis Clowning in Rome by : Henri J. M. Nouwen
Download or read book Clowning in Rome written by Henri J. M. Nouwen and published by Image. This book was released on 2013-11-20 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A classic work by one of this century's most beloved spiritual writers now reissued. The inspirational writings of Henri Nouwen have touched millions of readers all over the world, and since his death in September 1996, widespread recognition of their enduring value has continued to grow. Now, after being unavailable for several years, Nouwen's Clowning in Rome is available again as an Image trade paperback. In this classic account of the time he spent in Rome, Nouwen offers reflections and spiritual insight characteristic of his best works. During the months in Rome, it wasn't the red cardinals or the Red Brigade who had the most impact on Nouwen, but the little things that took place between the great scenes. In some ways, Nouwen discovered, the real and true story was told by the clowns he often saw in the city streets. In his own words, from the Introduction to Clowning in Rome: "The clowns are not the center of events. They appear between the great acts, fumble and fall and make us smile again after the tensions created by the heroes we came to admire. The clowns don't have it together--they are awkward, out of balance and left-handed, but--they are on our side. The clowns remind us with a tear and a smile that we are sharing the same human weakness. The longer I was in Rome, the more I enjoyed the clowns, those peripheral people who by their humble, saintly lives evoke a smile and awaken hope, even in a city terrorized by kidnapping and street violence."

Book Synopsis Poetry from A Sad Clown by : David Lalone
Download or read book Poetry from A Sad Clown written by David Lalone and published by . This book was released on 2020-06-23 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: David LaLone is a native of Lansing Michigan, where he lives with wife and two daughters. David has a degree in theology, which he thought would be used in full time pastoral ministry. This however was not the path his life would take. He wrote many of these poems while struggling to understand his role in ministry. He identifies with the persona of the Sad Clown. This clown is a marionette waiting for God to pull the strings. He is sad, and yet he is meant to make people smile. His poetry often swings along such pendulum emotions. His faith is stitched into every line. David is a lamenting prophet using his god given gift of words to paint the images that rise up from within and without. These are poems written in his late twenties. He has felt the thrill of graduation and the fear of the real world. He has started a church and watched it fall. He has invested in ministry to watch him fail. He has seen death and prayed for life from his wife's womb. David shares his life. His poetry is a window into his soul.Everyone knows that clowns are supposed to make you happy. So when as clown looks sad we are perplexed on what to do. I think this is a good image of the poetry in this book. When I wrote them I felt like I was in a sad clown season of life. This is not poetry meant to be depressing but like a sad clown it may make you a bit uncomfortable. I hope that these poems are able to impact you in a powerful way.
Download or read book Rebuilt written by Michael White and published by Ave Maria Press. This book was released on 2012-02-28 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawing on the wisdom gleaned from thriving mega-churches and innovative business leaders while anchoring their vision in the Eucharistic center of Catholic faith, Fr. Michael White and lay associate Tom Corcoran present the compelling and inspiring story to how they brought their parish back to life. Rebuilt: Awakening the Faithful, Reaching the Lost, and Making Church Matter is a story of stopping everything and changing focus. When their parish reached a breaking point, White and Corcoran asked themselves how they could make the Church matter to Catholics, and they realized the answer was at the heart of the Gospel. Their faithful response not only tripled their weekend mass attendance, but also yielded increased giving, flourishing ministries, and a vibrant, solidly Catholic spiritual revival. White and Corcoran invite all Catholic leaders to share the vision, borrow their strategies, and rebuild their own parishes. They offer a wealth of guidance for anyone with the courage to hear them.

Download or read book Playing the Fool written by Roly Bain and published by Canterbury Press Norwich. This book was released on 2001 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Roly Bain is a priest who is a clown. His unique ministry is a dramatic sign of the joy of the gospel which is often obscured by church pomp and ceremony, and the inverted values of the kingdom of God. Here, Bain tells his story and relects on the long tradition of the holy fool; the biblical concepts of the "foolishness of God" and "the folly of the cross"; the relationship between humour and healing; prayer and prayerfulness; and much more. Peppered with moving and memorable anecdotes from his work in prisons, hospices, schools and, increasingly, business organizations, this book should encourage all who try to communicate the good news of the gospel. Roly Bain first trained as a priest and then as a clown and has since combined the two roles with astonishing success. He is in constant demand to conduct services, celebrations and workshops, often in places of great need, such as prisons and hospitals. His first book, 'Fools Ruch In', was published by HarperCollins and sold through three printings. He lives in Bristol.
