Book excerpt: A reference guide to the vast array of art song literature and composers from Latin America, this book introduces the music of Latin America from a singer's perspective and provides a basis for research into the songs of this richly musical area of the world. The book is divided by country into 22 chapters, with each chapter containing an introductory essay on the music of the region, a catalog of art songs for that country, and a list of publishers. Some chapters include information on additional sources. Singers and teachers may use descriptive annotations (language, poet) or pedagogical annotations (range, tessitura) to determine which pieces are appropriate for their voices or programming needs, or those of their students. The guide will be a valuable resource for vocalists and researchers, however familiar they may be with this glorious repertoire.

This book was released on 2020-12-28 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comparative and transnational examination of the complex and multifaceted experiences of anti-labour mobilisation, from the bitter social conflicts of the pre-war period, through the epochal tremors of war and revolution, and the violent spasms of the 1920s and 1930s. It retraces the formation of an extensive market for corporate policing, privately contracted security and yellow unionism, as well as processes of professionalisation in strikebreaking activities, labour espionage and surveillance. It reconstructs the diverse spectrum of right-wing patriotic leagues and vigilante corps which, in support or in competition with law enforcement agencies, sought to counter the dual dangers of industrial militancy and revolutionary situations. Although considerable research has been done on the rise of socialist parties and trade unions the repressive policies of their opponents have been generally left unexamined. This book fills this gap by reconstructing the methods and strategies used by state authorities and employers to counter outbreaks of labour militancy on a global scale. It adopts a long-term chronology that sheds light on the shocks and strains that marked industrial societies during their turbulent transition into mass politics from the bitter social conflicts of the pre-war period, through the epochal tremors of war and revolution, and the violent spasms of the 1920s and 1930s. Offering a new angle of vision to examine the violent transition to mass politics in industrial societies, this is of great interest to scholars of policing, unionism and striking in the modern era.

Book Synopsis How to Use Sorghum Grain by : Carleton Roy Ball
Download or read book How to Use Sorghum Grain written by Carleton Roy Ball and published by . This book was released on 1918 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The most important groups of grain-producing sorghums are kafir and milo. The grain sorghums are of comparatively recent introduction. They are now extensively grown in the southern half of the Great Plains area -- Sorghum grain is feed for stock and food for man. It also may be used in making alcohol. the grain has about 90 percent of the feeding value of corn. It is a profitable feed, therefore, when the price is not more than 90 percent of the price of corn. Where the yield is 10 per cent more than the yield of corn, grain sorghums are as profitable crops to grow as corn. Sorghum grain is relished by all stock and poultry and if of good quality is readily eaten. For human food the meal can be used in every way that corn meal is used, and the grain may be popped like pop corn. The thrashed grain should be thoroughly dry and as clean as possible before it is stored in bins. Broken kernels and dirt pack so closely that they exclude the air and so increase the danger of spoiling. Bins for sorghum grain should be equipped with simple and easily made ventilators. The acreage of grain sorghum is increasing steadily. More of the grain should be used in the section where it is grown." -- p. 2

Download or read book The Progress of Colored Women: Three Civil Rights Speeches by the First Black Woman to Receive a College Education in the United States of America (H written by Mary Church Terrell and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2018-08-28 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mary Church Terrell was an icon in the civil rights movement, advocating for equality and social justice for black women through a lifetime of campaigning and eloquent oration. Famed for being the first black woman to gain a college education in the United States, Mary Terrell put her education to great use. Beginning in the 1890s, she spoke publicly on a range of civil rights which black Americans and black women were deprived. Throughout these efforts, Terrell helped coordinate a series of local movements which campaigned for suffrage and enfranchisement for the black population. Mary Church Terrell began a trend in the civil rights movement; her language bursting with eloquence and reason, she argued for a better intellectual, social and economic life for black Americans. Black women, who lacked even the right to vote, were compelled to join the cause, which they did in their thousands. Living to the age of 90, Terrell was a bridge between the Reconstruction era and the modern civil rights movement.
