Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this Spanish-translated script, act out the story of a bet between the north wind and the sun. The two argue over who is the most powerful and make a bet to see who can get a traveler to remove his cloak with their power. The harsh north wind tries its best with powerful force, but fails. The sun gently shines down warm beams of light, getting the traveler to remove his cloak quickly and showing the north wind that there is more power and strength in gentleness than in force. This charming, Spanish script includes six roles that are written at varying reading levels, supporting differentiation strategies. Teachers can implement differentiation strategies into instruction to assign roles to students based on their individual reading levels. This helpful feature is an easy way for teachers to get all of their students involved and engaged in an activity. All students will gain confidence and feel successful while building fluency, regardless of their current reading ability. This script also features a song and poem relating to the story. Through performing this story together, students will practice valuable skills like interacting cooperatively, reading aloud, and using expressive voices and gestures. All of the features in this dynamic, leveled script make it a great resource for an entire classroom of young readers.

Book excerpt: 180 Masterpieces You Should Read Before You Die (Vol.2) encapsulates an extraordinary spectrum of literary genius, spanning several centuries and encompassing a diverse range of themes, styles, and cultural perspectives. From the introspective existential quests seen in the works of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe to the pioneering adventures of Jules Verne and the intricate social critiques offered by Jane Austen and Charles Dickens, this anthology transcends the ordinary scope of literary collections. It not only showcases the pivotal movements in literary history but also includes standout pieces such as the deeply humanistic plays of Henrik Ibsen and the captivating narratives of Edgar Allan Poe, offering readers a panoramic view of the evolution of literature over time. The authors and editors, hailing from varied geographical, cultural, and intellectual backgrounds, represent the crème de la crème of global literature. Together, they provide a tapestry of human experience, reflecting the shift from Romanticism to Realism, and the advent of Modernism. The anthology is a testament to how disparate literary voices can illuminate the complexities of human life across different epochs. Contributors like Virginia Woolf and James Joyce, with their experimental narratives, alongside the moral deliberations in the works of Dostoyevsky and the epic storytelling of Homer, highlight a collective endeavor to explore the multifaceted nature of existence. This anthology is not merely a collection of writings; it is an invitation to traverse the expanses of human thought and emotion across ages and continents. Readers are encouraged to immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of stories, essays, and plays that have shaped human consciousness and continue to influence our perceptions of the world. '180 Masterpieces You Should Read Before You Die (Vol.2)' offers an unparalleled opportunity to engage with the words and wisdom of some of history's greatest minds, making it an essential addition to the library of any serious lover of literature.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book analyses the emotional message of Hungarian folksongs from a Cultural Linguistic perspective, employing a wide range of empirical devices. It combines theoretical notions with analytical devices and has a multidisciplinary essence: it relies on the latest Cultural Linguistic findings, employing spatial semantics, cognitive linguistics, cognitive psychology and ethnography. The book addresses key questions including: How is nature conceptualized by a folk cultural group? How are emotions and other mental states expressed via nature imagery with respect to metaphors and construal schemas? The author argues that folksongs reflect the Hungarian peasant communities’ specific treatment of emotions, captured in an underlying cultural schema ‘reservedness.’ This schema is grounded in principals of morality and tradition, and governs the various levels of representation. The main topics discussed are related to two core issues: cultural metaphors and cultural schemas of construal in folksongs. It provides a detailed example, based on over 1000 folksongs, of how a cultural group’s cognition can be analyzed and better understood through a representative corpus-based linguistic approach. The research is also pioneering in constructing a comprehensive analysis framework adapted to folk poetry, and offers an example of how cultural conceptualizations can be investigated in various discourse types. Last but not least, the book offers insights into the work of Hungarian linguists and folklorists concerning cultural conceptualizations, which have largely been unavailable in English.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is 1637, and religious conflict ebbs and flows across Europe. After decades of peace in England, young men become mercenaries to fight for principle, wealth or adventure. Richard Farrell enlists in the Low Countries, looking for a purpose to his life, and finds love, a career and a series of moral dilemmas. Sir William Brereton, prominent Puritan, and rising star in England’s Parliament, struggles to find God’s task for him in the growing political conflict with the King. Both men have their worlds turned upside down by encounters with the fey and mysterious Marleigh Hume, a woman pursuing a singular goal, to understand the very nature of life itself. At its heart, the At the Edge of Promises series is about purpose and passion – how religion, love, and politics drive the stories of people through the dramatic upheavals of the Civil War. In Sow the Wind, decisions and actions set wheels of fate in motion - wheels of tragedy, vengeance and redemption - with the interwoven stories coming to surprising and dramatic conclusions in the second book in the series, Reap the Whirlwind.
