Book excerpt: Men, Masculinities, and Popular Romance seeks to open a lively and accessible discussion between critical studies of men and masculinities and popular romance studies, especially its continued interest in what Janice Radway has called "the purity of his maleness." Popular romance novels, perhaps more than any other genre, explore sexuality and gender, creating an ideal space in which to consider and explore theoretical models that think seriously about gender. The romance novel has long been criticized and celebrated by feminist critics. How can these novels maintain, according to some, feminist ideals, while also upholding what Raewyn Connell has long theorized as "hegemonic masculinity"? This volume is an original and important contribution examining the previously underexamined nexus of masculinity and popular romance studies. It will be of key interest to undergraduates and postgraduates in Masculinities, Gender and Women’s Studies, and Literary Studies, and highly relevant to courses in Masculinity Studies, Pop Culture Studies, Queer Studies and Sexuality Studies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The title of this book speaks for itself. It is the testimony of the nationally recognized world-class pimp—Robert A. Thompson, otherwise known as the Boogie Mann. These are the words of a true living legend right off the streets of Sacramento, California—the epicenter of the west coast pimp game. It has been determined that pimps are not made, they are born. This book stands to be the first to explain how that is so. Genealogy of Pimp Ology breaks down the entire pimp game step by step. It will explain how the very nature of a pimp is genetically passed down generation after generation, biologically linking modern-day pimps to past players as far back as the biblical days. This book will also point out that many political leaders along the totem pole, including some forefathers, carried this pimp gene and secretly benefited one way or another, not only from slavery, but also from prostitution and/or human trafficking while manipulating the intelligence of the people all over the world!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Athens' democracy developed during the sixth and fifth centuries and continued into the fourth; Athens' defeat by Macedon in 322 began a series of alternations between democracy and oligarchy. The democracy was inseparably bound up with the ideals of liberty and equality, the rule of law, and the direct government of the people by the people. Liberty meant above all freedom of speech, the right to be heard in the public assembly and the right to speak one's mind in private. Equality meant the equal right of the male citizens (perhaps 60,000 in the fifth century, 30,000 in the fourth) to participate in the government of the state and the administration of the law. Disapproved of as mob rule until the nineteenth century, the institutions of Athenian democracy have become an inspiration for modern democratic politics and political philosophy. P. J. Rhodes's reader focuses on the political institutions, political activity, history, and nature of Athenian democracy and introduces some of the best British, American, German and French scholarship on its origins, theory and practice. Part I is devoted to political institutions: citizenship, the assembly, the law-courts, and capital punishment. Part II explores aspects of political activity: the demagogues and their relationship with the assembly, the manoeuvrings of the politicians, competitive festivals, and the separation of public from private life. Part III looks at three crucial points in the development of the democracy: the reforms of Solon, Cleisthenes and Ephialtes. Part IV considers what it was in Greek life that led to the development of democracy. Some of the authors adopt broad-brush approaches to major questions; others analyse a particular body of evidence in detail. Use is made of archaeology, comparison with other societies, the location of festivals in their civic context, and the need to penetrate behind what the classical Athenians made of their past.

Not for the timid, these positions challenge flexibility and stamina and will get readers head over heels--as well as sideways and upside down--to facilitate deep penetration, hit multiple hot spots, and yield amazing orgasms. - Stairway to Heaven: A sexy intercourse position where she stands one step above him on the staircase. He enters her from behind and lifts and folds her legs back and around his waist giving her amazing G-spot stimulation. - Over the Rainbow: His palms and feet are flat on the floor with his body arched. She is draped over his body, her back following the same bend as his, her feet resting on his chest. From the side, their bodies form an arc-shaped rainbow. The rush of blood to the head makes this demanding position even more thrilling and intense. - The Pretzel: He stands upright, and penetrates her in rear-entry position. He supports her waist while she pushes her arms back and raises her legs until she can grasp her ankles with her hands, as in the bow yoga position. Once she’s in place, the grip of her thighs should be enough to support her. He can keep one arm wrapped around her waist for added support; the other is free to stimulate her breasts and clitoris. The ultra-tight penetration means more stimulation for him and an ultimate filled-up feeling for her.
