Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cleft Lip and Palate: Diagnosis and Management is an unparalleled review of treatment concepts in all areas of cleft involvement presented by an international team of experienced clinicians. A unique feature of the book is that it largely consists of longitudinal facial and palatal growth studies of dental casts, photographs, panorexes, and cephalographs from birth to adolescence. Throughout the discussion of growth and treatment concepts, the importance of differential diagnosis in treatment planning is underscored. The underlying argument is that all the treatment goals – good speech, facial aesthetics, dental occlusion, and psychological development – may be realized without the need to sacrifice one for another. This updated third edition includes new chapters on further successful physiological treatment protocols, strategies for coping with psychological effects, the excellent clinical work being undertaken in Asia, future multicenter palatal growth studies, and other topics.

This book was released on 2018 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The treatment of patients with cleft lip with/without cleft palate is still a challenge for its correct team management. The fact that not all clefts are alike, based on anatomical findings and ortho/surgical alternatives used in their correction, requires that clinicians -working in interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary teams- direct efforts not only to repair the facial and oral characteristics of the cleft, but also to work in the context of the patient,Äôs craniofacial growth and development, tri-dimensionally affected by this type of craniofacial difference. The first part of this chapter is focused on the diagnostic approach for patients with unilateral cleft lip and palate (UCLP), using a modified version of the GOSLON yardstick (GOSLON+) that considers not only dental components but also 3D facial aspects of a complex malocclusion originated from this congenital malformation. Second, current treatment alternatives based on patient,Äôs stages of dental development and cleft width, using either straight-wire or passive self-ligation appliances are presented, directed to avoid dental prosthetic replacements if possible. Finally, our treatment algorithms summarized in a step-by-step fashion the treatment of such differences with approaches that will focus on these two key aspects, essential for a successful, patient-based, interdisciplinary treatment protocol.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims to teach the reader about all aspects of maxillary cleft reconstruction, with emphasis on management of the patient born with a congenital anomaly, cleft lip and palate, which will usually have been managed by several different providers during earlier childhood. Clinical anatomy, clinical and imaging assessment (including the role of CBCT), orthodontic considerations, surgical repair techniques, the approach in special situations, and outcome evaluation are all thoroughly described. While the focus is especially on the patient with mixed dentition, due attention is paid to prior influences on that stage, as well as to the changes that will occur subsequently. Maxillary cleft reconstruction is a uniquely multidisciplinary component in reconstruction of cleft lip and palate. It is one of the most complex phases of rehabilitation, wherein orthodontics, dentistry, and surgery are immediately involved but presentation and eventual outcomes are heavily influenced by operations during the first year of life and by growth that is unpredictable and iatrogenically altered. This book will be of high educational and practical value to all who have an interest in the management of patients with cleft lip and palate.
