Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inspired by the periodic table of elements, "Elements of Contemporary Clarinet Technique" takes the advancing clarinetist through a series of progressive etudes that address techniques both fundamental and extended. Chock full of new etudes for a new age, "Elements of Contemporary Clarinet Technique" explores foundational techniques like effective slurring, light articulation, and stable breath support while also delving into modern processes like circular breathing, double and slap tonguing, multiphonics, and more. Each etude, crafted by award-winning composer Roger Zare, draws its inspiration from a different element of the periodic table: "Gold" shimmers with lustrous connections, while "Oxygen" offers a chance for extreme breath control under musical duress and "Neon" sparkles in the upper register. Each etude is introduced and explored with a written masterclass and performance guide from acclaimed clarinetist Andy Hudson, who breaks down the technical and musical challenges of each etude, making this an invaluable resource for the progressing clarinetist. A true collaboration between composer and pedagogue, "Elements of Contemporary Clarinet Technique" sees longtime collaborators Roger Zare and Andy Hudson set the standard for the modern etude book in terms of progressive growth, nuanced musical development, and performance application.

Book excerpt: In B-Flat Clarinet Fingering Chart, Ryan Mihaly offers a window into the mind of the music educator that is part ritual, part revelation. The meditative prose harnesses the reflection of the basics, how the breath brings us back to the body. The sentences are simultaneously grounding and surreal and pose deceptively simple questions-what is it we share when we teach? How do we relate to how we breathe? At the core of the book is a voice of sheer wonder asking us to hear an entire song that is only the note E, a voice that considers practice and the soul to be enharmonic. Mihaly offers us "...a reprieve for the miserable. A provision, a ration of God. Breathe misery into your lungs as if the note alone could cure." -WHEELER LIGHT

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is part of a much wider system that I have devised called Music Mnemonics. I recognise not everybody may need (or want) the complete system, which is why I have brought out this clarinet fingering chart separately as a standalone book, each page covering an individual note. How this differs from other fingering charts is that it is designed the way the brain actually thinks: the right way around. Now you can see in your mind how YOU would play the notes, not see how someone else would play them when in front of you. It's also done in the same order of the chromatic scale. The issue with other clarinet charts is that they are not player-focused - they are audience-focused, depicting the fingerings the 'wrong' way around. A learner has to do mental gymnastics by translating and then reversing what can be complicated pictures in their mind before 'seeing' the note on their instrument. It's a long-winded way of going about things. Why go through all that pain when you don't have to? Learn as the brain thinks the first time around and then watch your playing go stratospheric as a result. Contains the common fingerings from bottom E right up to high A way up in the ledger lines.
