Book excerpt: The Cincinnati Bengals shocked the NFL with their run to Super Bowl LVI in 2022, reigniting the team's fanbase and making a new generation of devoted fans. Sparked by Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase's exciting play, Bengaldom roared the loudest since Boomer Esiason and the Ickey Shuffle rocked the Jungle. In The Cincinnati Bengals: An Illustrated Timeline, authors Jeff Suess and Rick Pender serve as guides for fans young and old to the biggest games and greatest players that shaped the history of the Bengals franchise. Return to the earliest days when football legend Paul Brown founded the Bengals after being fired from the Cleveland Browns and the grudge matches that ensue when the teams meet. Learn about quarterback phenom Greg Cook, whose career was tragically cut short. Experience the thrill of the two Super Bowl appearances in the 1980s, and shiver through the coldest game in NFL history. Through the photos, stories, and descriptions of the timeline you will meet the most celebrated players to wear the stripes and the young stars of the dynamic 2021 team that took the league by storm.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There were three professional football teams in Cincinnati before the current Bengals became a permanent fixture in the city. The Cincinnati Celts, Reds, and an earlier Bengals team (formed in 1937) all had short appearances in leagues that soon folded. It was not until 1967 that the football gods again smiled on Cincinnati. Paul Brown, who founded the Cleveland Browns in 1942, sold the Browns in 1962 and went to work organizing a Cincinnati team that played its first game in 1968. While the Bengals may not own any Super Bowl rings, they have won two AFC championship games, in 1981 and 1988, and were AFC Central Division champions five times, 1970, 1973, 1981, 1988, and 1990, as well as topping the AFC North in 2005.

Book excerpt: Cincinnati s history may conjure such icons as William Howard Taft, Pete Rose, and Fountain Square, but there are hundreds of stories of the city s past and present waiting to be discovered. Cincinnati: An Illustrated Timeline presents the pivotal moments in the history of the Queen City, some told for the first time. Follow along from the indigenous mound builders to the development of the first American city after the Revolutionary War. Watch the evolution of a city that was home to the first professional baseball team all the way to the revitalized urban center and the emergence of the FC Cincinnati soccer team. Through vignettes and hundreds of photographs and illustrations, author and historian Jeff Suess serves as your guide through the blossoming of a western river town into a meat-packing Porkopolis and one of the most influential cities of the mid-19th century. The timeline is multifaceted, exploring politics and race to the arts and pop culture, while also unveiling Cincinnati s role in the Underground Railroad, the spread of Reform Judaism, and the development of the polio vaccine. Whether you re a lifelong resident or a curious traveller, the pages of this book will help you learn, remember, and discover more than you ever knew about Cincinnati.

This book was released on 2023-03-01 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cincinnati has intrigued adventurous souls since 1788 when it became the first gateway to America’s western frontier. The beautiful Ohio River valley enticed immigrants from 19th-century Germany, and their entrepreneurial spirit is still evident two centuries later. This third edition of 100 Things to Do in Cincinnati Before You Die is an up-to-date guide to exploring all the Tristate has to offer, with numerous new choices for both visitors and longtime residents to experience. The region’s European influences are reflected by a bounty of food and drink to be enjoyed at an authentic tavern, a subterranean cocktail lounge, a Belgian bistro, and tasty Cajun fare. The rich arts community continues to flourish with renovations to the historic Cincinnati Music Hall and new stages for the award-winning Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park and the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company. Gorgeous parks can be found throughout the region, and Findlay Market, one of America’s most admired public markets, is a must-visit destination. Local author and tour guide Rick Pender provides fresh reminders of why longtime residents love it here, and it’s a destination that never fails to surprise tourists. With this book as your guide, and many means of transportation available, Cincinnati awaits your exploration.
