Book Synopsis Ushers, God's Front Line Commanders by : Josef Howard
Download or read book Ushers, God's Front Line Commanders written by Josef Howard and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2004-04 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a masterpiece on ushers as God's frontline commanders. It deals with the change in God's battle plans in conquering the hearts of man and how he has strategically positioned the ushers as a force to be reckoned with by the enemy who tries to infiltrate the church with the aim of causing harm to the work and people of God. This work depicts the spiritual struggle that takes place whenever the saints of God gather and how the ushers are caught in the middle of this battle. It establishes who should serve as ushers, their secret weapons, and their general responsibilities in the local church. In addition, it deals with other issues such as: ushers and etiquette, ushers taboos, what ushers need to know about the local church, ushers relationship with the pastor (s), different kinds of emergencies that occur in the local church and how to handle them, the role of the head usher, usher's rewards, visitor's expectations, tips for ushering, ushering as a spiritual gift, and many more. In other words, this book scrutinizes the ministry of ushering from an interdenominational and biblical perspective in a way that has been done in Christendom.

Book Synopsis A Practical Guide for Church Ushers & Greeters by : Joseph Brewer
Download or read book A Practical Guide for Church Ushers & Greeters written by Joseph Brewer and published by . This book was released on 2021-01-21 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is an usher? He is the can do, will do, go-to guy for his pastor during the services at his church. He sets aside his personal desires to serve his pastor, the congregation, and the guests in attendance. He is the smile and extended hand of welcome as you enter the doors to his church. He's the guy ready with the answers to your questions or he knows where to get the answers. The professional manner in which he conducts himself creates a smooth and seamless worship experience for all those in his building. He's the watchman at the gate, keeping an eye out for dangers. He has a plan for when unforeseen circumstances arise. He is prepared to act decisively when called upon. He's the man who will show you to your seat and is entrusted to take up the offering. The decision to write this booklet came from the careful study of the somewhat-antiquated handout I have been giving my new ushers to read when they begin their role as an usher at our church. I ordered several more books on the subject to search for a book that embodied everything I wanted to instill in my team of ushers, but my search came up lacking. While these handouts and books were great literature, they did not quite offer the depth that I was looking to give to my ushers. Through this search, I found some to be more ritual than helpful, while others were very heavy on the theology of ushering and church boards but less practical. I wanted something practical and more to the point of how to deal with everyday circumstances in the role of an usher. I wanted to find a book that speaks more directly to the reader. Since my search result came up empty, I decided to write one myself. I approach this subject from over twenty years of ushering experience and thirteen years as a head usher. I also draw from my twenty-five years of working in industrial construction as what is called a Millwright and, for a time, as an Ironworker. During most of my time working in construction, I was the foreman on the job. Years later, I would take from these experiences and apply them in my role being the head usher of my church. After more than twenty years of being involved with various ministries in my church, all the while being a greeter and an usher, I can tell you that in my opinion and experience, being a greeter or being an usher is one of the most important ministries you can take part in at your church. Being an usher and/or a greeter is very rewarding and brings a substantial amount of joy if you approach it the right way. It can also be frustrating, heartbreaking, and at times, very intense.I have been the head usher in my church since 2007. I'm in charge of ushering, greeting, and security. I get to see many aspects of the ministry from various perspectives, and I will touch on all three areas in this book.My life verse is Psalms 84:10. It reminds me, every day, of where I want to be in my life and why I do what I do. "For a day in Thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness." Psalms 84:10 KJV

They are answering the call to serve the body of Christ by superbly representing our Lord Jesus Christ to newcomers and those of the Christian faith. However, being an usher requires more than just escorting people to a church pew, but exemplifying what the Bible proclaims as "loving one's neighbor" to all those around them. The new book by author Donna C. Hornbuckle, Confessions of a Church Usher, characterizes the various responsibilities required of church ushers and greeters by providing inside glimpses into their roles: staying fresh in God's Word, dressing the part and establishing connection with each person one meets with outstanding service. The author does not 'sugar-coat' and addresses the ministry challenges from restraining from 'authoritative' actions to having a calming temperament around many personalities. She reminds readers that inappropriate responses could damage their witness to those who are seeking a relationship with Jesus Christ.Overall, Confessions of a Church Usher, emphasizes the intricate and vital part that the Usher Ministry plays in impacting the lives of others for the Lord. She encourages readers to prayerfully ask God what ministry would be benefitted most by their gifts, talents and skills as the Usher Ministry is not for everyone. Download or read book The Church Usher written by Robert Degraw and published by Tate Publishing. This book was released on 2010-03 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In my youth I would watch the ushers at church and thought it would be neat to usher. It didn't look hard and I'd get to greet everyone. When I got old enough I volunteered and was hooked. After I was married and moved to the big city, the church I attend was very large, and like most churches they needed ushers. I was promoted very quickly and the responsibility didn't bother me. Then I was drawn to a new daughter church. This was a challenge, a brand new church. I offered what I could. When things got settled I was running one of the services. When the Head ushers spot came open I didn't think I was ready, so I prayed about it. A calmness came over me and I knew then it was what God wanted me to do.' David Foos, Head Usher, Canyon Hills Community Church, Bothell, Washington
