Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This autobiography is reflective of the many dimensional attitudes of the author, Dato’ Jeyaraj C. Rajarao. As he recounts his life story it is evident that he has lived a life with passion, integrity, wit and mischief. A life of black and white, with very little grey in it. The narrative begins with a simple story of love that spans decades. It then takes the reader through a young boy’s experience of the Japanese occupation of Malaya until she gains independence. It is obvious that the political, social and economic situation of the period influenced Rajarao as a young boy and helped form his ideologies. Rajarao is hard-hitting and critical when he conveys his opinions about the activities of the Prime Minister, and his cohorts, that caused Malaysia to be regarded as the worst kleptocratic country in the world. However, the reader becomes aware of how much Rajarao loves and despairs for Malaysia as he shares how she is being torn apart by race and religion-based policies. No doubt, there is much that can be regarded as controversial or confrontational but that is inevitable when truth is told. The book is intensely personal and immensely interesting. He is brutally honest as he admits his mistakes and apologizes. This book is recommended reading for the young and the old, as it is both a history book as well as an autobiography. It is dribbled with sharp observations on life, and draws the reader into a different era, yet it also educates them and recommends a purpose driven life. The Odyssey is certainly most thought-provoking, enlightening and stimulating.

Book excerpt: Sickle-cell disease is a unique inherited and incurable condition of the blood cells which, according to doctors, has similarities with virtually all disease conditions known to mankind. Commonly affecting Africans and those with an African ancestry, the disease is also prevalent among Arabs, Turks, Greeks, Italians (chiefly Sicilians), Iranians and Indians. As a result of migration and other factors, the disease is rampant the world over. Nigeria hosts the largest population of sicklers in the world - over 6 million at the last estimate. Suffering from a severe form of the disease, author writes about his childhood, the pains of growing up with a major health impairment. He also talks about his early cigarette and alcohol abuse and of being sexually molested at the age of 7. In this first of a series, the author touches on the social and political milieu into which he was born and weaves into his story the life experiences of significant others in his web of relationship. This book will be a source of encouragement to all whom the medical profession gives little prospects, whether of healing or survival REVIEWER'S COMMENT: "This is a personal account of a man's struggle through the threatening spasms of life. The novel offers a great deal of information about the sickle-cell disease, the Yoruba, their anthropology, religion, and family systems. It is a definite statement about African culture and belief patterns. The crafting of the story is rich and captivating." Professor Charles Ogbulogo Former HOD Department of African & Asian Studies University of Lagos Nigeria "The book has me laughing on one page and on the next I am crying. An extremely interesting autobiography'' Maxine Taylor, Texas, USA

Book excerpt: Pity the Nation ranks among the classic accounts of war in our time, both as historical document and as an eyewitness testament to human savagery. Written by one of Britain's foremost journalists, this remarkable book combines political analysis and war reporting in an unprecedented way: it is an epic account of the Lebanon conflict by an author who has personally witnessed the carnage of Beirut for over a decade. Fisk's book recounts the details of a terrible war but it also tells a story of betrayal and illusion, of Western blindness that had led inevitably to political and military catastrophe. Updated and revised, Fisk's book gives us a further insight into this troubled part of the world. 'Robert Fisk is one of the outstanding reporters of this generation. As a war correpondent he is unrivalled.' Edward Mortimer, Financial Times

The choices made by Meg and Savannah may be controversial with some readers, but, nevertheless, this outstanding debut is recommended for all public libraries. —Library Journal (starred review) “Souvenir is tender, touching, and completely compelling. I cared so much about these characters, couldn’t put the novel down, read through the night. Therese Fowler writes with such wisdom about young love, intense and impossible choices, and the way one decision can affect an entire life.” –Luanne Rice In this powerful fiction debut, Therese Fowler combines the emotional resonance of Nicholas Sparks with the intense, true-to-life richness of Jodi Picoult to create a stunning and dramatic novel all her own. Meg Powell and Carson McKay grew were raised side by side on their families’ farms, bonded by a love that only deepened. Everyone in their small rural community in northern Florida thought that Meg and Carson would always be together. But at twenty-one, Meg was presented with a marriage proposal she could not refuse, forever changing the course of her life. Seventeen years later, Meg’s marriage has become routine, and she spends her time juggling the demands of her medical practice, the needs of her widowed father, and the whims of her rebellious teenage daughter, Savannah, who is confronting her burgeoning sexuality in a dangerous manner, and pushing her mother away just when she needs her most. Then, after a long absence, Carson returns home to prepare for his wedding to a younger woman. As Carson struggles to determine where his heart and future lie, Meg makes a shocking discovery that will upset the balance of everyone around her.
