Book Synopsis Tackling Social Exclusion in Europe by : Roger Spear
Download or read book Tackling Social Exclusion in Europe written by Roger Spear and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the result of an international study by leading economists and sociologists from across Europe and North America. The response of the new social economy (primarily voluntary and co-operative sectors) to social exclusion and employability in the context of crises of unemployment and the welfare state is of wide international concern. This book looks specifically at the growth of enterprises and initiatives whose primary aim is the integration of unemployed and disadvantaged people into work. A common framework has been used in each of the country studies, thus allowing an interesting international comparative perspective to be developed. There is considerable interest in how the third sector is changing internationally in response to rapidly changing work and welfare systems. By distilling international experience this book makes an important contribution to debates about new ways of addressing the central issues of unemployment and social exclusion of disadvantaged people in society.

Book Synopsis The Labour Market and Older Workers by : John Blackwell
Download or read book The Labour Market and Older Workers written by John Blackwell and published by OECD. This book was released on 1995 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The population in most OECD countries is ageing. Will there be enough working age people to support the growing proportion of the population which is above the standard retirement age? This question is all the more troubling given the increasing number of workers below the standard retirement age who have been leaving the labour force. This volume discusses the labour market for older workers in ten OECD countries: Australia, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States. A companion volume (No.16) 'the transition from work to retirement' usefully complements the information.

Book Synopsis Enriching Production by : Åke Sandberg
Download or read book Enriching Production written by Åke Sandberg and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text aims to present and discuss the innovative Volvo Uddevalla plant, comparing it to other plants - Japanese lean ones and others. The starting point for the book is Volvo's dramatic decision to close its Uddevalla and Kalmar plants, and the debate that followed this decision, both in Sweden and abroad. Both plants were pioneers of the possibilities to unite productivity and the good work, but, following the announcement of their closure, researchers and practitioners in the field of industrial organization from many countries asked why they closed, how they compared with other production concepts, and whether we now see an end of an alternative to Japanese lean production.

Book Synopsis Labour Market and Social Protection Reforms in International Perspective by : Giuliano Bonoli
Download or read book Labour Market and Social Protection Reforms in International Perspective written by Giuliano Bonoli and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-05 with total page 405 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Social protection systems and labour markets have undergone major changes in the past two decades. Welfare states are being reformed, scaled back and modernised; labour markets, at the same time, are more precarious, more feminised, more unequal, and throughout the OECD area, older. The interaction between labour markets and social protection has become increasingly crucial to the social and economic policy mix concerning unemployment, the transformation of work, the new poverty, and even demographics. Against this background, an interdisciplinary team of leading labour market and social protection experts from various OECD countries examine the multifaceted aspects of the changing relationship between social protection systems and labour markets. They identify and analyse key emerging issues, such as the link between employment and social protection financing, the adaptation of social protection systems to women's career patterns, and the development of new forms of social protection that aim at promoting employment. With practical policy guides and recommendations using case studies and comparative chapters, this will be engaging reading for policy-makers, social actors and academics alike.

Book Synopsis The Great Transformation of Japanese Capitalism by : Sébastien Lechevalier
Download or read book The Great Transformation of Japanese Capitalism written by Sébastien Lechevalier and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-02-05 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the 1980s the performance of Japan’s economy was an international success story, and led many economists to suggest that the 1990s would be a Japanese decade. Today, however, the dominant view is that Japan is inescapably on a downward slope. Rather than focusing on the evolution of the performance of Japanese capitalism, this book reflects on the changes that it has experienced over the past 30 years, and presents a comprehensive analysis of the great transformation of Japanese capitalism from the heights of the 1980s, through the lost decades of the 1990s, and well into the 21st century. This book posits an alternative analysis of the Japanese economic trajectory since the early 1980s, and argues that whereas policies inspired by neo-liberalism have been presented as a solution to the Japanese crisis, these policies have in fact been one of the causes of the problems that Japan has faced over the past 30 years. Crucially, this book seeks to understand the institutional and organisational changes that have characterised Japanese capitalism since the 1980s, and to highlight in comparative perspective, with reference to the ‘neo-liberal moment’, the nature of the transformation of Japanese capitalism. Indeed, the arguments presented in this book go well beyond Japan itself, and examine the diversity of capitalism, notably in continental Europe, which has experienced problems that in many ways are also comparable to those of Japan. The Great Transformation of Japanese Capitalism will appeal to students and scholars of both Japanese politics and economics, as well as those interested in comparative political economy.
