Book excerpt: In this book...I said that this generation or at the most the next will have to decide between materialistic, atheistic Communism and the Kingdom of God on earth. I thought it would take a generation for this issue to come to a head. In half a generation the issue has become acute....But this book was primarily written not to emphasize the weaknesses or the strengths of Communism, but to present the Christian alternative to Communism. In rereading what I wrote I find myself holding to the main thesis of the book. That remains intact. There is a Christian alternative, and our emphasis should be to apply that alternative so that a soil might be created in which Communism could not grow....Communism as a system is not the answer. It will break down ultimately through inherent weaknesses. We must be ready with a demonstration of the Christian answer. The Christian answer is the Kingdom of God on earth. This book attempts to expound that answer and points to its application. I am gratified to know that the main plea is still relevant, and to my mind more relevant now than ever. - E. Book Synopsis The Holiness Manifesto by : Kevin W. Mannoia
Download or read book The Holiness Manifesto written by Kevin W. Mannoia and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2008-04 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Does the concept of holiness hold any relevance for Christians in the twenty-first century? Or is it rather a relic of the past, with little to offer in today's postmodern world? The contributors to this book firmly insist that holiness is indeed relevant, no matter the age in which we live. Moreover, it is essential to following Christ in the twenty-first century. The essayists are all members of the Wesleyan Holiness Study Project, a gathering of scholars and leaders who have met since 2004 to explore the mission of the churches of the Holiness movement. The book begins with two compelling ecumenical statements articulating the holiness message for today's church: "The Holiness Manifesto" and "Fresh Eyes on Holiness." These are followed by a dozen penetrating essays grouped in three parts: (1) the understanding of holiness in Scripture, (2) holiness in historical and theological perspective, and (3) holiness in relation to various practical aspects of ministry. The book concludes with appendixes offering five considered descriptions of holiness. The fastest-growing segments of the church worldwide have their roots in the Wesleyan Holiness tradition. Catholic, Orthodox, and other Protestant denominations are discovering its relevance to their own traditions and practices. The Holiness Manifesto offers an ideal overview to those wishing to understand more about this extremely influential movement. Contributors: Jim Adams Barry Callen Lisa L. The result is a lucid exposition of Marxism and an incisive account of its persistence and continuing importance.
Book Synopsis Is God a Communist? by : Marty Cauley
Download or read book Is God a Communist? written by Marty Cauley and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2015-06-11 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many Christians have the mistaken notion that Jesus is building a heavenly mansion in New Jerusalem for all believers regardless of the way they live. Those adopting this perspective tend to think that Heaven is pretty much the same for all believers, regardless of the way they live. The parable of the labors is thought to prove that everyone gets the same paycheck in terms of rewards. Supposedly, the communistic God gives the same paycheck to faithful believers (i.e. overcomers) as He does to unfaithful believers. The payment amount on their heavenly paycheck might as well read ditto. The emblem of Christian communism is a fitting logo for this view of Heaven. The present study will refute such communistic views of Heaven by comparing Paul's teaching of the workmen with Jesus parable of the laborers.
Download or read book Yes in Christ written by Howard A. Snyder and published by Clements Publishing Group. This book was released on 2011-03-01 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The promises of God formed the basis of John Wesley's optimism of grace. Wesley believed God not only could but in fact would fulfill all his promises to bring salvation to the nations; to make new heavens and a new earth; to liberate the whole creation from its bondage to decay (Rom. 8:21). This collection of essays by respected Wesleyan theologian Howard A. Snyder reflects the spirit of Wesley's optimism of grace. The first half of this collection offers an overview of Wesley's theology and practice, particularly with regard to gospel, mission, and culture. Part Two examines the inter-dynamic between church renewal and global mission. The collection also includes Wesleyan appraisals of Clark Pinnock's theology and the ecclesiology of Karl Barth. Howard A. Snyder serves as distinguished professor and chair of Wesley Studies at Tyndale Seminary in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Previously he was professor of history and theology of mission in the E. Stanley Jones School of World Mission and Evangelism at Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky from 1996 to 2006. He has also taught at United Theological Seminary, Dayton, Ohio, and pastored in Chicago and Detroit. He has written numerous books, including " The Problem with Wineskins " (IVP), " The Radical Wesley " (IVP) and, most recently " Populist Saints: B. T. and Ellen Roberts and the Birth of Free Methodism " (Eerdmans). "
