Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book intends to show that Christianity is God's response -- expressed in human words and in human history -- to the divinely inspired yet sin-distorted universal human search for God. Through a sympathetic evaluation and comparison with Christianity of the major world religions (from Primitive myths and rites to Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism, Islam and Judaism), this work defends the credibility of the Catholic Christian faith and shows the need for dialogue with these religions in the "new evangelization" of the world called for by Vatican II.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adam Hamilton, named by PBS’s Religion and Ethics Newsweekly as one of the top “Ten People to Watch,” has created an inviting new series of video-and-book studies on love and marriage, life issues, world religions, and Christian denominations. Hamilton calls these small-group studies “fishing expeditions,” because they include tools for congregation wide and communitywide programs to draw in new members. Components include DVD, participant’s book, leader’s guide, and pastor’s guide with CD-ROM. 6-8 sessions / 60-90 minutes Christianity and World Religions: Wrestling With Questions People Ask is a video-based small-group study and outreach program that explores four major world religions- Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, and Judaism – and compares the beliefs of each with those of Christianity. This six-week study deals openly and honestly with questions people ask about other religions, including why we should believe the claims of Christianity over those of other faiths. As part of the study, author and presenter Adam Hamilton interviews a religious leader from each tradition. He treats the world religions with great respect, recognizing the unique contributions of each. In examining these major world religions and the beliefs of their followers, the Reverend Hamilton urges us as Christians to build bridges with others so that we might grow in our faith, seek peace in our world, love our neighbor, and find positive ways to share the gospel. For group or individual study, the book can be used by class participants during the study group meeting or at home for additional reflection. Includes detailed content for the six sessions. Thus the authors of this book propose a new, yet very biblical, model for interacting with people of other faiths. They term this model giftive mission, as it is based on the metaphor of free gift. We bear the greatest gift possible--the gospel message. Adopting this perspective not only has the potential for greater missionary success but also enables us to more closely imitate God's gracious activity in the world. The core of the book explores eleven practices that characterize giftive mission. Each practice is illustrated through the story of a figure from mission history who embodied that practice. Further discussion shows how to incorporate these practices in specific mission settings.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by an L. A. County homicide detective and former atheist, Cold-Case Christianity examines the claims of the New Testament using the skills and strategies of a hard-to-convince criminal investigator. Christianity could be defined as a “cold case”: it makes a claim about an event from the distant past for which there is little forensic evidence. In Cold-Case Christianity, J. Warner Wallace uses his nationally recognized skills as a homicide detective to look at the evidence and eyewitnesses behind Christian beliefs. Including gripping stories from his career and the visual techniques he developed in the courtroom, Wallace uses illustration to examine the powerful evidence that validates the claims of Christianity. A unique apologetic that speaks to readers’ intense interest in detective stories, Cold-Case Christianity inspires readers to have confidence in Christ as it prepares them to articulate the case for Christianity.

Excerpt: ...is not much of a proselytizing organization. Its interest in missions has been in the form of doing good and helping on all good causes, and of reviving the life that is within these other Religions. The Rev. Dr. William E. Channing once used these words concerning other Christian denominations: "Accustomed as we are to see genuine piety in all classes of Christians, in Trinitarians, in Unitarians, in Calvinists and Arminians, in Episcopalians, Methodists, Baptists, and Congregationalists, and delighting in this character whenever it appears, we are little anxious to bring men over to our peculiar opinions." This unwillingness to make converts characterizes social settlement work in England and America. It is this which has made the Unitarian body a small one, in comparison with those more zealous and also more sectarian, and has kept it from participating in missions, so long as the main idea has been to convert people from their traditional faith to Christianity. Unitarians need to understand that, leaving out the proselytizing motive, they have a duty as followers of Christ to live out Christianity and make the Christian message known to all the brotherhood of men. Unitarianism in the old Arian form was as much missionary as was the Athanasian. The first translation of the Bible into a vernacular tongue was made by Bishop Ulfilas for the Gothic peoples, and the Gothic type of Christianity was Arian. It was also Nestorianism which in the seventh century carried the Gospel to Persia and China. It was a member of the family of Socinus who carried the Gospel in sixteenth century to Poland and Transylvania, and it was the same Socinian scholars who translated the Bible into the Polish tongue. The Unitarian Churches of Hungary are the descendants of...
