For this it became necessary not only to request the manufacturers of glass to adopt and revive certain processes of fabrication which, whatever has been said to the contrary, were never entirely lost or forgotten; but it was found indispensable that they should be provided with models themselves, in the spirit of the times to which these monuments belonged. And, let us not be backward to state, that the French mind never showed itself more willing, or better able, to re-link the broken chains of past ages; never has it more rapidly re-conquered a territory that was supposed to be irrecoverably lost.
