Download or read book Clear to the Horizon written by Dave Warner and published by Fremantle Press. This book was released on 2017-11-01 with total page 491 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1999, a number of young women go missing in the Perth suburb of Claremont. One body is discovered. Others are never seen again. Snowy Lane (City of Light) is hired as a private investigator but neither he nor the cops can find the serial killer. Sixteen years later, another case brings Snowy to Broome, where he teams up with Dan Clement (Before It Breaks) and an incidental crime puts them back on the Claremont case. Clear to the Horizon is a nail-biting Aussie-style thriller, based on one of the great unsolved crimes in Western Australia's recent history. Its twists and turns will keep you guessing to the end. Dave Warner's Before It Breaks (Fremantle Press) won the Ned Kelly Award for Best Crime Fiction in 2016. This novel brilliantly combines the sleuthing skills of two of Warner's best-known characters and looks at how unsolved crimes can continue to haunt communities long after the fact. The book references the Claremont serial killings, Western Australia's most notorious cold-case. It's a case that real-life investigators recently made a giant leap forward on: arresting a man for the murders of two women. Warner's work has strong support from newspapers like the Herald Sun, Sydney Morning Herald and Weekend Australian and reviews of his last book were syndicated to newspapers across the nation. Warner is a known musician with an existing fan base and is likely to feature on local NSW and WA radio.

Download or read book Belief written by Marlion Pickett and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2020-11-01 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From prison to premiership glory; this is Marlion Pickett’s extraordinary story. It’s the third quarter in the biggest game of the season. A young man lines up for goal. The 100,000 strong crowd leaps to its feet and roars as Marlion Pickett sends the ball soaring through the goalposts for his first ever major, celebrated by every teammate, a tradition upheld even on Grand Final day. It was the 2019 AFL Grand Final, and Richmond’s Marlion Pickett was making history as the first player in over 50 years to debut on that ‘one day in September’. Marlion helped the Tigers thrash the Greater Western Sydney Giants in their debut grand final appearance and was judged third best on ground, only six days after steering Richmond’s VFL team with his best on ground performance to their nail biting Grand Final victory. Marlion Pickett’s extraordinary story of redemption is a true fairy tale. The tale of a man who came back from the brink to triumph on Australian sport’s biggest stage, a long-held dream come true. What’s even more remarkable about Marlion’s journey is how this young, troubled Aboriginal kid from Western Australia ever got his chance in the first place. A story all too sadly familiar – about drugs, crime, violence and time spent in jail – but also about a life picked up piece by piece through his own belief in himself and those around him who believed in him too. Belief also takes us inside the South Fremantle and Richmond Football clubs – clubs that have made stars and cult heroes out of other Indigenous players; clubs willing to overlook a talented kid’s troubled past to give him a chance. We meet the fellow players and support network who stood by Marlion’s side as he fought back against injury and the doubters and proudly ran onto the field at the MCG. Marlion’s resilience and strength is inspirational. His is an unforgettable Australian story of triumph over adversity. Foreword by Brendan Gale, CEO Richmond Football Club and Damien Hardwick, Senior Coach Richmond Football Club '[Belief reads] like a Steinbeck novel cum Tarantino film due to the vividly unfolding drama on almost every page.' Download or read book Big Bad Blood written by Dave Warner and published by . This book was released on 1997-01 with total page 537 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Big Bad Blood is Australia's answer to the slash-and-burn novels of James Ellroy - a big crime thriller set in the netherworld of organised crime and official corruption peopled with desperate, drastically flawed characters. The world Dave Warner creates is dark and seamy, filled with shakedowns, prostitutes, transvestites, crooked cops, porn merchants and makers and an ever increasing flow of drugs. Sydney 1965. The Beatles on every radio, Tommy Smith and George Moore winning almost every race, and 33-year-old detective Ray Shearer on the take. Shearer acts as muscle for Kings Cross businessman and 'colourful racing personality', George Shaloub. George has troubles. He wants to knock down some terraces in the Cross to build a business centre, but heiress and local newspaper publisher Jenny Wilson is running a campaign against him. To compound his problems, one of his prostititutes (Sally Prescott) is found murdered in a copycat of an horrific molestation murder eight years previously. Much to his annoyance, Ray Shearer finds himself on the Prescott homicide case. He earns far more as Shaloub's standover man and sees the murder inquiry as an irritating time-waster. Or maybe not. When Ray was twelve his parents died as a result of deliberate arson. If there is one consolation to be found it is that a good result on the homocide might finally see him transferred to Arson where he will be able to wrestle more often with his personal demon, perhaps one day stumbling over the killer of his parents. Another cop who crosses Shaloub's path is young John Gordon. Gordon is a fresh-faced ingenue who manages to 'save' George Shaloub's mistress from an armed robber. It turns out Shaloub's mistress is a transvestite, Sue Foley. The innocent Gordon is simultaneously fascinated and repulsed by Sue's attentions. It is Gordon who is the first cop on the scene of the Prescott slaying. When he finds a crucifix sticking out of her anus, he pulls it out without thinking, then is horrified at how he has contaminated the crime scene and probably wrecked his police career. He is saved by Gordon, who covers up the mistake, takes Gordon under his wing, and decides to pursue the crucifix lead in the hope that it will give him the jump on solving the case. To get help on the crucifix i.d. Shearer goes to see his older brother Patrick. Patrick, who had been with Ray when their parents were killed, is now a priest - a powerbroker in the Catholic Church, with Vatican aspirations. He disapproves of Ray's separation and impending divorce from his wife, and continually rebukes Ray for his criminal associations, unaware that he is the reason Ray wound up in Shaloub's clutches in the first place. The Prescott inquiry is grinding on without much joy when things really start hopping. Two young women are found murdered in the sand dunes at Wanda Beach. The m.o. is one more in the same copycat style as that of Prescott. Ray searches for a link between Prescott and the two new victims. He discovers a Prescott connection to the Attorney General who has just wound up dead in his swimming pool. the AG was thick with Shaloub. Ray has to ask himself: Could Shaloub be involved in all of this? Another bombshell. Ray discovers that Sue Foley, Shaloub's trannie girlfriend, was a classmate of the original murderer on whose grisly work the recent killings have been based. Then another twist: Jenny Wilson disappears. Then John Gordon is kidnapped by Sue Foley. Before abandoning him she spills out a tale of childhood molestation at the hands of a Christian Brother. She talks about revenge. Shearer and Gordon make Foley as the killer and embark on a furious chase to grab her before she kills again. But that is only the beginning. In their quest for truth, Shearer and Gordon must descend into a labyrinth of guilt, shame and hate. Only by confronting their own dark and terrible secrets can they succeed. Only by allowing themselves to be baptised by the river of Big Ba
