Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When aspiring screenwriter Andrew Bloomfield moved into a bungalow in Southern California he soon discovered that he shared the property with a large colony of feral cats — untamed, uninterested in human touch, not purring pets in waiting. But after a midnight attack by predators that decimated yet another litter of kittens, Bloomfield decided to intervene. He began to name and nurse, feed and house, rescue and neuter. Drawing on his time living in Asia among spiritual teachers, he takes us on the contemplative, humorous, and poignant journey of saving these cats, only to find it was they who saved him by revealing a world of meaning beyond his unrealized Hollywood dreams.

Book Synopsis Exceptional People by : Thomas Nathan Tomlinson
Download or read book Exceptional People written by Thomas Nathan Tomlinson and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2021-06-11 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1841, several groups of people want to be the first to take a wagon train to California. Each of the small groups assume they are the only people making plans for such a trip. Father Joseph McCoy is the leader of one of the small groups planning the trip to California. His people have an edge on the others because of their famous mountain man and guide. Another of the small groups is led by a committee of highly ambitious men organized under the name of the Western Immigration Association. They have an edge on the others because of their meticulous planning and organization. Rufus Kelsey is the leader of another of the small groups. He is the head of a rough and tough hillbilly clan, and their edge on the others comes from their reckless desperation. All these people mix and match on the way to California. Romance and adventure can be found in every wagon as these people from all walks of life face one test after another in their quest to live the American dream. Throw in a herd of cattle traveling with one of the wagon trains, and you have a powerful story of men and women willing to face unknown hardship in order to find happiness and prosperity. Their story is one of steamy romance and raw courage that brings the settling of the west to life. At its simplest form, this book is the story of a small group of exceptional people.
Book Synopsis Forbidden Animation by : Karl F. Cohen
Download or read book Forbidden Animation written by Karl F. Cohen and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2013-10-18 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tweety Bird was colored yellow because censors felt the original pink made the bird look nude. Betty Boop's dress was lengthened so that her garter didn't show. And in recent years, a segment of Mighty Mouse was dropped after protest groups claimed the mouse was actually sniffing cocaine, not flower petals. These changes and many others like them have been demanded by official censors or organized groups before the cartoons could be shown in theaters or on television. How the slightly risque gags in some silent cartoons were replaced by rigid standards in the sound film era is the first misadventure covered in this history of censorship in the animation industry. The perpetuation of racial stereotypes in many early cartoons is examined, as are the studios' efforts to stop producing such animation. This is followed by a look at many of the uncensored cartoons, such as Lenny Bruce's Thank You Mask Man and Ralph Bakshi's Fritz the Cat. The censorship of television cartoons is next covered, from the changes made in theatrical releases shown on television to the different standards that apply to small screen animation. The final chapter discusses the many animators who were blacklisted from the industry in the 1950s for alleged sympathies to the Communist Party.
