Book excerpt: Paraffin waxes make up the majority of commercial waxes. Waxes are characterized by the carbon number, hardness, crystal shape, composition, and molecular weight. These characteristics determine the condition of separating the wax. Paraffin wax is widely used in different industries such as ink, paper, cosmetics, ceramics using powder injection molding and energy storage as phase change materials. Consumption of wax products has increased in the world; especially for food, pharmaceutical products, cosmetics, as well as specialty products. The increase of profitability of wax production will lie in the improvement of blending and modification techniques for macro and micro-crystalline waxes used as the base materials.

Book Synopsis Thermophysical Properties of Polymers by : Yuli K. Godovsky
Download or read book Thermophysical Properties of Polymers written by Yuli K. Godovsky and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Among various branches of polymer physics an important position is occupied by that vast area, which deals with the thermal behav ior and thermal properties of polymers and which is normally called the thermal physics of polymers. Historically it began when the un usual thermo-mechanical behavior of natural rubber under stretch ing, which had been discovered by Gough at the very beginning of the last century, was studied 50 years later experimentally by Joule and theoretically by Lord Kelvin. This made it possible even at that time to distinguish polymers from other subjects of physical investigations. These investigation laid down the basic principles of solving the key problem of polymer physics - rubberlike elasticity - which was solved in the middle of our century by means of the statistical thermodynamics applied to chain molecules. At approx imately the same time it was demonstrated, by using the methods of solid state physics, that the low temperature dependence of heat capacity and thermal expansivity of linear polymers should fol low dependencies different from that characteristic of nonpolymeric solids. Finally, new ideas about the structure and morphology of polymers arised at the end of the 1950s stimulated the development of new thermal methods (differential scanning calorimetry, defor mation calorimetry), which have become very powerful instruments for studying the nature of various states of polymers and the struc tural heterogeneity.

Book Synopsis Gas-Liquid And Liquid-Liquid Separators by : Maurice Stewart
Download or read book Gas-Liquid And Liquid-Liquid Separators written by Maurice Stewart and published by Gulf Professional Publishing. This book was released on 2008-10-02 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gas-Liquid And Liquid-Liquid Separators is practical guide designed to help engineers and operators develop a ?feel? for selection, specification, operating parameters, and trouble-shooting separators; form an understanding of the uncertainties and assumptions inherent in operating the equipment. The goal is to help familiarize operators with the knowledge and tools required to understand design flaws and solve everyday operational problems for types of separators. Gas-Liquid And Liquid-Liquid Separators is divided into six parts: Part one and two covers fundamentals such as: physical properties, phase behaviour and calculations. Part three through five is dedicated to topics such as: separator construction, factors affecting separation, vessel operation, and separator operation considerations. Part six is devoted to the ASME codes governing wall thickness determination of vessel weight fabrication, inspection, alteration and repair of separators - 500 illustrations - Easy to understand calculations methods - Guide for protecting downstream equipment - Helps reduce the loss of expensive intermediate ends - Helps increase product purity

Download or read book Thermodynamics written by Jean Vidal and published by Editions OPHRYS. This book was released on 1980 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The simulation and optimization of processes assumes that the thermodynamic properties and phase equilibria of the mixtures concerned are well known. This knowledge is still based upon experimentation, but it is also the result of calculation methods based on the principles of thermodynamics that govern them, insure their coherence, and confer upon them a wide range of application. This text is concerned primarily with the description of these methods and their evolution. It devotes extensive space to fundamental concepts and places particular emphasis on the models that, although based on simplified concepts of the subject matter at the molecular level, have predictive character. Computational examples are used to explain the application of these concepts and models. Contents: 1. Principles. Thermodynamic functions. The ideal gas. 2. Properties of pure substances. 3. Predicting thermodynamic properties of pure substances. General principles. Corresponding states. Group contributions. 4. Equations of state. 5. Characterization of mixtures. 6. Mixtures: liquid-vapor equilibria. 7. Deviations from ideality in the liquid phase. 8. Application of equations of state to mixtures. Calculation of liquid-vapor equilibria under pressure. 9. Liquid-liquid and liquid-liquid-vapor equilibria. 10. Fluid-solid equilibria. Crystallization. Hydrates. 11. Polymer solutions and alloys. 12. Multicomponent mixtures. 13. Chemical reactions. Appendixes. Index. Bibliography.
