Book Synopsis Classic and Advanced Ceramics by : Robert B. Heimann
Download or read book Classic and Advanced Ceramics written by Robert B. Heimann and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2010-04-16 with total page 573 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on the author's lectures to graduate students of geosciences, physics, chemistry and materials science, this didactic handbook covers basic aspects of ceramics such as composition and structure as well as such advanced topics as achieving specific functionalities by choosing the right materials. The focus lies on the thermal transformation processes of natural raw materials to arrive at traditional structural ceramics and on the general physical principles of advanced functional ceramics. The book thus provides practice-oriented information to readers in research, development and engineering on how to understand, make and improve ceramics and derived products, while also serving as a rapid reference for the practitioner. The choice of topics and style of presentation make it equally useful for chemists, materials scientists, engineers and mineralogists.

Download or read book Ceramic Membranes written by Vitaly Gitis and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2016-06-27 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook gives a clear and coherent overview of ceramic membranes, from preparation methods all the way to applications and economics. The authors, who are known for their clear writing style, combine their expertise in environmental engineering and porous materials to cover a wide range of examples, with over 1000 references. Chapters 1, 2 and 3 give a detailed introduction to membrane synthesis, transport mechanisms, and characterisation. Building on this, Chapter 4 outlines the state-of-the-art in ceramic membrane applications, including fuel cells, water purification, gas separation, and the making of cheeses, fruit juice, wine and beer. The final chapter deals with the economics of ceramic membrane processes, using industrial case studies to examine market barriers and opportunities. Ceramics are known throughout history, but now, after thousands of years, they´re making a comeback. Indeed, they may hold the key for addressing three of today´s biggest challenges: clean energy, drinking water and air pollution. This book is a must-have for anyone who wants to enter the ceramic membranes field, or keep up-to-date with the latest developments and applications. Book Synopsis Advanced Technical Ceramics Directory and Databook by : Robert John Hussey
Download or read book Advanced Technical Ceramics Directory and Databook written by Robert John Hussey and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-09-08 with total page 508 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advanced Technical Ceramics Directory and Databook is a world-wide directory of the properties and suppliers of advanced technical ceramic material used in, or proposed for, numerous engineering applications. The information is subdivided into sections based on the class of ceramic, e.g. Nitrides-silicon nitride, sialon, boron carbide, aluminium nitride etc. Each section consists of a short introduction, a table comparing basic data and a series of data sheets. The book adopts standardised data in order to help the reader in finding and comparing different data and identifying the required information. It is designed to complement the existing Chapman & Hall publications on high performance materials.
Book Synopsis Progress in Nitrogen Ceramics by : F.L. Riley
Download or read book Progress in Nitrogen Ceramics written by F.L. Riley and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 782 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first NATO Advanced Study Institute on Nitrogen Ceramics held in 1976 at Canterbury came at a particularly significant moment in the development of this subject. The five-year period, 1971-75, had been an especially fruitful one in very many respects for work in the areas of covalent materials in general, and of the nitrides in particular. The Institute was therefore able to cap ture fully the spirit of excitement and adventure engendered by the outputs of numerous national research programmes, as well as those of many smaller research groups, concerning ceramics potent ially suitable for applications in a high temperature engineering context. It reflected accurately the state of knowledge with respect to the basic science, the powder technology, and the prop erties of materials based on silicon nitride and associated syst ems. The Proceedings of the Institute thus provided a good record for workers already in the field, and a useful textbook for new comers to the subject of nitrogen ceramics. The Canterbury Advanced Study Institute had a valuable educ ational and social function in bringing together for two weeks a large proportion of those workers most closely involved at that time with the nitrogen ceramics. The atmosphere of this meeting, providing both intensive discussions and informal contacts, made a lasting impression on the participants, and inevitably the question was raised of whether, and when, a second Advanced Study Institute might be held on this subject.
