Cuts to athletic scholarships left the football program a shambles and the school a last resort for many students. In 1937, underfunded state police, fighting a losing battle against striking miners and steel workers in Johnstown, called in the National Guard. There were not enough police to cover the state, and it showed. Then someone started killing young women in the area. Between November 1938 and May 1940, Rachel Taylor, Margaret Martin and Faye Gates were abducted and sexually assaulted, their bodies dumped within 50 miles of the college. As the school grew into Pennsylvania State University and the Nittany Lions became a world-class team, two demoralized police agencies were merged, forming the precursor of the Pennsylvania State Police. Gates's murderer was captured and convicted. The killer(s) of Taylor and Martin, however, have gone unidentified to this day.

Its accomplishments in advancing the role of women in government have been largely forgotten. Based on the “A Few Good Women” oral history project at the Penn State University Libraries, A Matter of Simple Justice illuminates the administration’s groundbreaking efforts to expand the role of women—and the long-term consequences for women in the American workplace. At the forefront of these efforts was Barbara Hackman Franklin, a staff assistant to the president who was hired to recruit more women into the upper levels of the federal government. Franklin, at the direction of President Nixon, White House counselor Robert Finch, and personnel director Fred Malek, became the administration’s de facto spokesperson on women’s issues. She helped bring more than one hundred women into executive positions in the government and created a talent bank of more than a thousand names of qualified women. The Nixon administration expanded the numbers of women on presidential commissions and boards, changed civil service rules to open thousands more federal jobs to women, and expanded enforcement of antidiscrimination laws to include gender discrimination. Also during this time, Congress approved the Equal Rights Amendment and Nixon signed Title IX of the Education Amendments into law. The story of Barbara Hackman Franklin and those “few good women” shows how the advances that were made in this time by a Republican presidency both reflected the national debate over the role of women in society and took major steps toward equality in the workplace for women.

It is a love story between Adam and Eve, whom Adam says is "bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh." It is also an educational tool for understanding our first parents, their interaction with The Creator, marriage, and the promise of the "Special Seed" who is Jesus Christ, the Last Adam. Throughout the book are prayers of Adam as he reflects on his life, his sin, his guilt, and his longing for the Special Seed who will accomplish what Adam failed to accomplish on earth. The author writes from a young earth creationist viewpoint, which includes acknowledgment of a literal Adam and Eve who were the first man and woman, and from whom all human beings have descended.The author, Dr. John M. Cimbala, is Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Penn State University. He has co-authored several textbooks, including a popular Fluid Mechanics textbook that is used around the world and has been translated into several languages. This little book about Adam, however, is his first novel.
