Book excerpt: Excerpt from Catalogue of the Morrin "Climax" Water Tube Safety Boiler Casual glance may give the impression that this generator is very complicated, but a close examination will reveal it to be of very simple construction; and when its construction is understood, it will also be apparent that with the ordinary amount of care, such as is usually bestowed upon common boilers, it is not liable to get out of order, and when, through constant use repairs are demanded they can be easily and quickly made. The boiler consists of a vertical cylinder and loop-like tubes, ex tending the entire height oi the generator, which comprise the principal heating surface, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The main cylinder (shell) A is constructed similar to any cylindrical boiler shell, and is made perfectly steam-tight, also strong enough to resist internal pressure, and is provided on top with a man-hole plate. A perfect idea of the loop-like tubes may be obtained by referring to the shaded tubes in Fig. 2. The extremities of these tubes extend and are expanded into the cylinder A, forming a steam-tight connection. Their ends are in higher planes to each other as will be seen by referring to the lower shaded tube in Fig. 1. The heads are bumped to a radius equal to the diameter of the shell and require no braces. The tubes are 1% to 3 inches in diameter, and 280 to in number, according to the size of the boiler, and their aggregated length varies with the size of the boilers from to feet, or equal to about two and a quarter miles in the largest size.
