They’re down here, they’re up there, they’re nowhere. They want the Earth, they want us to have it. They came to wipe us out, they came to save us. But beneath these riddles lies one truth: Cassie has been betrayed. So has Ringer. Zombie. Nugget. And all 7.5 billion people who used to live on our planet. Betrayed first by the Others, and now by ourselves. In these last days, Earth’s remaining survivors will need to decide what’s more important: saving themselves . . . or saving what makes us human. Praise for The Last Star “Yancey’s prose remains achingly precise, and this grows heavier, tighter, and more impossible to put down as the clock runs out…this blistering finale proves the truth of the first two volumes: it was never about the aliens.”—Booklist, starred review “A haunting, unforgettable finale.”—Kirkus Reviews “Yancey doesn’t hit the breaks for one moment, and the action is intense, but the language always stays lyrical and lovely. It’s a satisfying end to an impressive trilogy, true to the characters and the world Yancey created.”—Entertainment Weekly “Yancey has capped off his riveting series with a perfect ending.”—TeenReads.com “[T]he ending provides both satisfaction and heartbreak.”—Publishers Weekly “Yancey's writing is just as solid and descriptive as in the first two books….What Yancey does beautifully is reveal the human condition.”—Examiner.com "Rick Yancey sticks the (alien) landing in the action-packed finale to his The 5th Wave invasion saga . . . . And the author gives us a major dose of girl power as well, pairing Cassie and Ringer for an uneasy alliance that provides the best moments in this fantastic series’ thought-provoking and satisfying conclusion.”—USA Today Praise for The 5th Wave Now a major motion picture starring Chloë Grace Moretz "Remarkable, not-to-be-missed-under-any-circumstances."—Entertainment Weekly "A modern sci-fi masterpiece . . ."—USAToday.com "Wildly entertaining . . . Book excerpt: A compassionate, shame-free guide for your darkest days “A one-of-a-kind book . . . to read for yourself or give to a struggling friend or loved one without the fear that depression and suicidal thoughts will be minimized, medicalized or over-spiritualized.”—Kay Warren, cofounder of Saddleback Church What happens when loving Jesus doesn’t cure you of depression, anxiety, or suicidal thoughts? You might be crushed by shame over your mental illness, only to be told by well-meaning Christians to “choose joy” and “pray more.” So you beg God to take away the pain, but nothing eases the ache inside. As darkness lingers and color drains from your world, you’re left wondering if God has abandoned you. You just want a way out. But there’s hope. In I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die, Sarah J. Robinson offers a healthy, practical, and shame-free guide for Christians struggling with mental illness. With unflinching honesty, Sarah shares her story of battling depression and fighting to stay alive despite toxic theology that made her afraid to seek help outside the church. Pairing her own story with scriptural insights, mental health research, and simple practices, Sarah helps you reconnect with the God who is present in our deepest anguish and discover that you are worth everything it takes to get better. Beautifully written and full of hard-won wisdom, I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die offers a path toward a rich, hope-filled life in Christ, even when healing doesn’t look like what you expect.

He’s glad to be in Summer Lake with guys he used to work with—guys who’ve already made the transition from covert ops to a more regular kind of life. His friends have met women and settled down with them, though. And that’s not in the cards for Cal. As far as he’s concerned, the female of the species may as well be a different species. When he first meets Teresa, she only confirms for him that he has no clue how women operate. But she makes him want to figure it out. She’s a breath of fresh air that he doesn’t know how to handle. She’s very much her own person, but before long, she has Cal wanting to figure out how to make her his person. Teresa’s bowled over by the big, sexy, serious-looking guy who walks into her salon. After a less than auspicious beginning, she’s left disappointed. But not for long. He might seem serious and a little bit intimidating, but Teresa can see through the tough exterior to the big-hearted guy underneath. These two might not look like the perfect match on paper. But he makes her feel cared for in a way she never has before. And she brings out his softer side—and his smile, and boy what a smile it is! Pick up your copy of this heartwarming romance today to follow Cal and Teresa’s journey. You’ll laugh and cry with them as they get a little help from his friends, and from her three-year-old granddaughter on their way to finding their happily-ever-after. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thomson (independent scholar), writing of The Biographical Dictionary of Film (aka A Biographical Dictionary of the Cinema, 1975 edition), described it as "a personal, opinionated, and obsessive biographical dictionary of the cinema." Thirty-five years and several editions later, that description still holds true of this expanded work. The new dictionary summarizes salient facts about its subjects' lives and discusses their film credits in terms of the quality of the filmmakers' work. In ambition it has competitors, including Leslie Halliwell's various editions of Halliwell's Filmgoers Companion (12th ed., 1997) and Halliwell's Who's Who in the Movies, edited by John Walker (4th ed., rev. and updated, 2006), which cover films and technical terms (categories not included in Thomson's), but whose entries are neutral and exceedingly brief. Additionally, Francophile Richard Roud's edited Cinema: A Critical Dictionary: The Major Filmmakers (2 v., 1980) is as passionate a work as Thomson's, but narrower in scope, with entries written by various experts, rather than only by Roud. Finally, the multivolume magnum opus The International Dictionary of Films and Filmmakers (4th ed., 2000, ed. by T. Pendergast and S. Pendergast; 2nd ed., ed. by N. Thomas, v. 1, CH, May'91; 1st ed., ed. by C. Lyon, v.1-2, CH, Jan'85, v.3, CH, Apr'87, v.4-5, CH, Jun'88) covers everything--films, directors, actors, writers, and production artists--with generous, measured, scholarly entries and lavish illustrations. However, it looms large and heavy, unlike the handy one-volume work by Thomson. Arguably, Thomson's work, for its scope, is the most fun, the most convenient, and the most engaging title. All libraries supporting people interested in film should buy it. It will get lots of use and provide very good value for the money. Summing Up: Highly recommended. Lower-level undergraduates and above; general readers. General Readers; Lower-division Undergraduates; Upper-division Undergraduates; Graduate Students; Researchers/Faculty; Professionals/Practitioners. Reviewed by C. Hendershott.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Sound Of Fear follows a pathway of the unthinkable. Is life as we know it truly a myth of hopeful expectation? The book, spread over a decade of time, entrances you with the love of a couple and their love of family, entwines you around the mysteries of the subconscious mind, enthralls you with depths of fear ignited by often heart-rendering episodes and embraces your simple need for pulling the bed covers over your eyes! Weak, strong, dirty, and heroic characters help you relate to human frailties. Inconceivable terror strikes you at times to find your core’s fear triggers. Take a deep breath as necessary! The simple fact is fear manifests deeply in all humans. Some hide the emotion with intrinsic capabilities of denial. Others blink and run on impulse! The storyline drifts around an alien tone. Subtle at times, you feel compelled to understand any life-form’s survival needs. But, the brutality of reality puts you back on the “home Team”, routing for the survival of the fittest! The Sound Of Fear experience finds you reminiscing those times when you looked into the wind-blown bushes at dusk to see the imaginary shadows or when you thought twice about going into the dark open waters of that expansive pond, lake or ocean. The book’s simple text finds you remembering the possibilities of how and why people cold be placed in situations just like one’s you’d heard about or had experienced. Within the chapters, you will relate to the characters’ sometimes reckless, sometimes concise, sometimes giddy, sometimes compassionate decisions or emotions. The book is purposefully designed to make you feel like you know what’s going to happen next…it at least gives you that “feeling” of control…or does it? Let your fear be your guide!
