Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The exciting sequel to The Excalibur File. Named after her father’s favourite beer, Cascade Smith is born beautiful, which will shape her life. She grows up an ‘all Australian girl,’ progressing from her High-Country home through school, university, first love and sporting success – given her stunning looks, the perfect formula for ‘happily ever after.’ But that is not to be. The year 2024 sees the tragic death of her soul mate. Bad enough, but 2024 also heralds a worldwide financial crash, a return to the gold standard and the rise of a China intent on gold and territorial expansion. America’s NSA obtains the PLA plan for ‘Oceania Gold’ – a strategic blueprint to conquer the islands of the South Pacific and ultimately invade northern Australia on Christmas Day, 2030. Cascade is recruited into Wedgetail, ASIO’s clandestine black ops group, tasked to counter China’s MSS agents inserted into Australia to destabilise the defence effort and open the way for invasion. She and her fellow agents take on the MSS as an undermanned ADF prepares for the greatest naval battle since the Second World War – a battle Australia can never hope to win. Or can it?

Book excerpt: Our modern idea of what a healthy landscape looks like and how it functions is distorted by the fur trade that once trapped out millions of beavers from North America's lakes and rivers. Goldfarb shares the powerful story about one of the world's most influential species. He explains how North America was colonized, how our landscapes have changed over the centuries, and how beavers can help us fight drought, flooding, wildfire, extinction, and the ravages of climate change. -- adapted from jacket

Download or read book Insect Hormones written by Gerald Litwack and published by Gulf Professional Publishing. This book was released on 2005-12-05 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Insect biochemistry and molecular genetics have become enormously important sciences. Molecular genetics of drosophila has paced mammalian genetics and has facilitated many advances in mammalian genetics. Moreover, many life-threatening diseases for man are now carried chiefly by insects and our increasing knowledge of the basic science of insects may help to control these diseases. There is no more important facet of insect science than insect hormones, the agents that allow for communication between cells and tissues. This volume updates important areas of this subject, namely: hormonal control of ecdysis; ecdysone receptors in agriculture and medicine; molecular structure of the receptor ligand binding site of ecdysone; a molecular genetic approach to the biosynthesis of the molting hormone; non-steroidal ecdysone agonists; molecular actions of juvenile hormone in drosophila, and insect neuropeptide receptors.

Book Synopsis Developmental Cascades by : Lisa M. Oakes
Download or read book Developmental Cascades written by Lisa M. Oakes and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developmental Cascades proposes a new framework for understanding development by arguing that change can be explained in terms of the events that occur at one point in development, which set the stage or cause a ripple effect for the emergence or development of different abilities, functions, or behavior at another point in time. This framework is applied in detail to three domains within infant cognitive development--namely, looking behavior, object representations, and concepts for animacy.
Book Synopsis Physics of Wave Turbulence by : Sébastien Galtier
Download or read book Physics of Wave Turbulence written by Sébastien Galtier and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2022-12-22 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A century ago, Lewis Fry Richardson introduced the concept of energy cascades in turbulence. Since this conceptual breakthrough, turbulence has been studied in diverse systems and our knowledge has increased considerably through theoretical, numerical, experimental and observational advances. Eddy turbulence and wave turbulence are the two regimes we can find in nature. So far, most attention has been devoted to the former regime, eddy turbulence, which is often observed in water. However, physicists are often interested in systems for which wave turbulence is relevant. This textbook deals with wave turbulence and systems composed of a sea of weak waves interacting non-linearly. After a general introduction which includes a brief history of the field, the theory of wave turbulence is introduced rigorously for surface waves. The theory is then applied to examples in hydrodynamics, plasma physics, astrophysics and cosmology, giving the reader a modern and interdisciplinary view of the subject.
