Book Synopsis Applied Compositional Data Analysis by : Peter Filzmoser
Download or read book Applied Compositional Data Analysis written by Peter Filzmoser and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-11-03 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the statistical analysis of compositional data using the log-ratio approach. It includes a wide range of classical and robust statistical methods adapted for compositional data analysis, such as supervised and unsupervised methods like PCA, correlation analysis, classification and regression. In addition, it considers special data structures like high-dimensional compositions and compositional tables. The methodology introduced is also frequently compared to methods which ignore the specific nature of compositional data. It focuses on practical aspects of compositional data analysis rather than on detailed theoretical derivations, thus issues like graphical visualization and preprocessing (treatment of missing values, zeros, outliers and similar artifacts) form an important part of the book. Since it is primarily intended for researchers and students from applied fields like geochemistry, chemometrics, biology and natural sciences, economics, and social sciences, all the proposed methods are accompanied by worked-out examples in R using the package robCompositions.
Book Synopsis Aboriginal Geographical Names of Canada by : Albertina Pianarosa

This specialized toponymic bibliography is the first of its kind in Canada to be developed from a data base covering the whole country. Of particular assistance to users are the annotations which accompany nearly all the 1240 entries. In addition to over 1000 records on Native Canadian toponymy, have also been included, for comparison purposes, some records on Native toponymy in other countries.
Book Synopsis Flow and Contaminant Transport in Fractured Rock by : Jacob Bear
Download or read book Flow and Contaminant Transport in Fractured Rock written by Jacob Bear and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 575 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the past two or three decades, fractured rock domains have received increasing attention not only in reservoir engineering and hydrology, but also in connection with geological isolation of radioactive waste. Locations in both the saturated and unsaturated zones have been under consideration because such repositories are sources of heat and potential sources of groundwater contamination. Thus, in addition to the transport of mass of fluid phases in single and multiphase flow, the issues of heat transport and mass transport of components have to be addressed.

Provides the first global and interdisciplinary account of arsenic pollution occurrences Integrates geochemistry, hydrology, agriculture, and water supply and treatment for the first time Options are highlighted for developing alternative water sources and methods for arsenic testing and removal Appeals to specialists in one discipline seeking an overview of the work being done in other disciplines
Book Synopsis Hydraulic Fracturing for Oil and Gas by : U.s. Environmental Protection Agency
Download or read book Hydraulic Fracturing for Oil and Gas written by U.s. Environmental Protection Agency and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2017-06-09 with total page 664 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This final report provides a review and synthesis of available scientific information concerning the relationship between hydraulic fracturing activities and drinking water resources in the United States. The report is organized around activities in the hydraulic fracturing water cycle and their potential to impact drinking water resources. The stages include: (1) acquiring water to be used for hydraulic fracturing (Water Acquisition), (2) mixing the water with chemical additives to prepare hydraulic fracturing fluids (Chemical Mixing), (3) injecting the hydraulic fracturing fluids into the production well to create fractures in the targeted production zone (Well Injection), (4) collecting the wastewater that returns through the well after injection (Produced Water Handling), and (5) managing the wastewater via disposal or reuse methods (Wastewater Disposal and Reuse). EPA found scientific evidence that hydraulic fracturing activities can impact drinking water resources under some circumstances. The report identifies certain conditions under which impacts from hydraulic fracturing activities can be more frequent or severe.
