Book excerpt: Integral representations of holomorphic functions play an important part in the classical theory of functions of one complex variable and in multidimensional com plex analysis (in the later case, alongside with integration over the whole boundary aD of a domain D we frequently encounter integration over the Shilov boundary 5 = S(D)). They solve the classical problem of recovering at the points of a do main D a holomorphic function that is sufficiently well-behaved when approaching the boundary aD, from its values on aD or on S. Alongside with this classical problem, it is possible and natural to consider the following one: to recover the holomorphic function in D from its values on some set MeaD not containing S. Of course, M is to be a set of uniqueness for the class of holomorphic functions under consideration (for example, for the functions continuous in D or belonging to the Hardy class HP(D), p ~ 1).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book features papers presented during a special session on algebra, functional analysis, complex analysis, and pluripotential theory. Research articles focus on topics such as slow convergence, spectral expansion, holomorphic extension, m-subharmonic functions, pseudo-Galilean group, involutive algebra, Log-integrable measurable functions, Gibbs measures, harmonic and analytic functions, local automorphisms, Lie algebras, and Leibniz algebras. Many of the papers address the theory of harmonic functions, and the book includes a number of extensive survey papers. Graduate and researchers interested in functional analysis, complex analysis, operator algebras and non-associative algebras will find this book relevant to their studies. The special session was part of the second USA-Uzbekistan Conference on Analysis and Mathematical Physics held on August 8-12, 2017 at Urgench State University (Uzbekistan). The conference encouraged communication and future collaboration among U.S. mathematicians and their counterparts in Uzbekistan and other countries. Main themes included algebra and functional analysis, dynamical systems, mathematical physics and partial differential equations, probability theory and mathematical statistics, and pluripotential theory. A number of significant, recently established results were disseminated at the conference’s scheduled plenary talks, while invited talks presented a broad spectrum of findings in several sessions. Based on a different session from the conference, Differential Equations and Dynamical Systems is also published in the Springer Proceedings in Mathematics & Statistics Series.

It has been written from the viewpoint of modern mathematics — the -equation, differential geometry, Lie groups, etc. It contains all the traditional material on complex analysis, but many statements and proofs of classical theorems in complex analysis have been made simpler, shorter and more elegant due to modern mathematical ideas and methods. For example, the Mittag–Leffler theorem is proved by the -equation, the Picard theorem is proved using the methods of differential geometry, and so on.

This book was released on 2017-11-23 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a self-contained account of the method based on Carleman estimates for inverse problems of determining spatially varying functions of differential equations of the hyperbolic type by non-overdetermining data of solutions. The formulation is different from that of Dirichlet-to-Neumann maps and can often prove the global uniqueness and Lipschitz stability even with a single measurement. These types of inverse problems include coefficient inverse problems of determining physical parameters in inhomogeneous media that appear in many applications related to electromagnetism, elasticity, and related phenomena. Although the methodology was created in 1981 by Bukhgeim and Klibanov, its comprehensive development has been accomplished only recently. In spite of the wide applicability of the method, there are few monographs focusing on combined accounts of Carleman estimates and applications to inverse problems. The aim in this book is to fill that gap. The basic tool is Carleman estimates, the theory of which has been established within a very general framework, so that the method using Carleman estimates for inverse problems is misunderstood as being very difficult. The main purpose of the book is to provide an accessible approach to the methodology. To accomplish that goal, the authors include a direct derivation of Carleman estimates, the derivation being based essentially on elementary calculus working flexibly for various equations. Because the inverse problem depends heavily on respective equations, too general and abstract an approach may not be balanced. Thus a direct and concrete means was chosen not only because it is friendly to readers but also is much more relevant. By practical necessity, there is surely a wide range of inverse problems and the method delineated here can solve them. The intention is for readers to learn that method and then apply it to solving new inverse problems.

Book excerpt: This volume on complex analysis offers an exposition of the theory of complex analysis via a comprehensive set of examples and exercises. The book is self-contained and the exposition of new notions and methods is introduced step by step. A minimal amount of expository theory is included at the beginning of each section in the Preliminaries, with maximum effort placed on well-selected examples and exercises capturing the essence of the material. The examples contain complete solutions and serve as a model for solving similar problems given in the exercises. The readers are left to find the solution in the exercises; the answers, and occasionally, some hints, are given. Special sections contain so-called Composite Examples which consist of combinations of different types of examples explaining some problems completely and giving the reader an opportunity to check all his previously accepted knowledge. Audience: This volume is intended for undergraduate and graduate students in mathematics, physics, technology and economics interested in complex analysis.

Book excerpt: This is a rigorous introduction to the theory of complex functions of one complex variable. The authors have made an effort to present some of the deeper and more interesting results, for example, Picard's theorems, Riemann mapping theorem, Runge's theorem in the first few chapters. However, the very basic theory is nevertheless given a thorough treatment so that readers should never feel lost. After the first five chapters, the order may be adapted to suit the course. Each chapter finishes with exercises.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph deals with functions of completely regular growth (FCRG), i.e., functions that have, in some sense, good asymptotic behaviour out of an exceptional set. The theory of entire functions of completely regular growth of on variable, developed in the late 1930s, soon found applications in both mathematics and physics. Later, the theory was extended to functions in the half-plane, subharmonic functions in space, and entire functions of several variables. This volume describes this theory and presents recent developments based on the concept of weak convergence. This enables a unified approach and provides a comparatively simple presentation of the classical Levin-Pfluger theory. Emphasis is put on those classes of functions which are particularly important for applications -- functions having a bounded spectrum and finite exponential sums. For research mathematicians and physicists whose work involves complex analysis and its applications. The book will also be useful to those working in some areas of radiophysics and optics.
