Book Synopsis Carbon-Carbon ?-Bond Formation by : G. Pattenden
Download or read book Carbon-Carbon ?-Bond Formation written by G. Pattenden and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1992-09-08 with total page 1209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 3 covers carbon-to-carbon single bond forming reactions involving sp3, sp2 and sp carbon centers, but only those which do not involve additions to C-X &pgr;-bonds. The volume first compares and contrasts the alkylation reactions of all types of sp3 carbon nucleophiles and also covers vinyl and alkynyl carbanions. Following on from Volume 2, a separate section covers Friedel-Crafts alkylation reactions, which is complemented by discussions of polyene cyclizations and electrophilic transannular cyclizations in synthesis. Coupling reactions leading to &agr;-bond formation, and involving all types of combinations ofsp3, sp2 and sp carbon centers are next covered, including those reactions based on pinacol, acyloin and phenol oxidative coupling reactions, and also the Kolbe reaction. Rearrangement reactions, leading to carbon-to-carbon &agr;-bond formation, are often used in a clever manner in synthesis. The volume includes all those rearrangement reactions based on intermediate carbonium ions and carbanions, and also includes the benzil-benzilic acid and the Wolff rearrangements. The volume closes with coverage of carbonylation reactions, and the use of carbene insertion reactions into the C-H bond in synthesis.

Book excerpt: The construction of C-X (X = C, N, S) bonds is an important research content in the field of organic synthesis and drug preparation. Focusing on the green construction of the core skeleton of functional fine chemicals, the team has carried out research on green synthesis and catalytic reactions of fine chemicals, realized the effective synthesis of high value-added fine chemicals, and obtained a series of new systems of transition metal palladium and copper-catalyzed halogenated aromatic hydrocarbons involved in C-C and C-N coupling reactions; realized the efficient preparation of biphenyl, arylamine and aryl thioether compounds using water as solvent. Aiming at atomic economy, we realized the new method of direct C-H functionalization of arenes to construct C-C and C-S bond formation, as well as the construction of structurally complex functional molecular skeletons through one-pot multi-step reactions, laying a solid foundation for the application of fine organic synthesis technology in the fields of pharmaceutical intermediates, agrochemicals and optoelectronic materials, forming a distinctive research direction of fine chemical synthesis technology and it has formed a distinctive research direction of fine chemical synthesis technology and a stable R&D team, and improved the technical level of preparation of high value-added fine chemicals. He has published a total of 30 academic papers, including 27 SCI papers.

Book Synopsis Strategies and Tactics in Organic Synthesis by : Michael Harmata
Download or read book Strategies and Tactics in Organic Synthesis written by Michael Harmata and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-08-09 with total page 537 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A classic in the area of organic synthesis, Strategies and Tactics in Organic Synthesis provides a forum for investigators to discuss their approach to the science and art of organic. Rather than a simple presentation of data or a second-hand analysis, we are given stories that vividly demonstrate the power of the human endeavour known as organic synthesis and the creativity and tenacity of its practitioners. First hand accounts of each project tell of the excitement of conception, the frustration of failure and the joy experienced when either rational thought and/or good fortune give rise to successful completion of a project. In this book we learn how synthesis is really done and are educated, challenged and inspired by these stories, which portray the idea that triumphs do not come without challenges. We also learn that we can meet challenges to further advance the science and art of organic synthesis, driving it forward to meet the demands of society, in discovering new reactions, creating new designs and building molecules with atom and step economies that provide solutions through function to create a better world.* Presents state-of-the-art developments in organic synthesis * Provides insight and offers new perspective to problem-solving * Written by leading experts in the field

Book Synopsis Ball Milling Towards Green Synthesis by : Achim Stolle
Download or read book Ball Milling Towards Green Synthesis written by Achim Stolle and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2014-11-26 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ball milling has emerged as a powerful tool over the past few years for effecting chemical reactions by mechanical energy. Allowing a variety of reactions to occur at ambient temperatures and in solvent-free conditions, ball milling presents a greener route for many chemical processes. Compared to the use of microwave and ultrasound as energy sources for chemical reactions, ball milling is not as familiar to chemists and yet it holds great potential. This book will introduce practicing chemists to the technique and will highlight its importance for green transformations. Current applications of ball milling will be covered in detail as well as its origin, recent developments and future scope, challenges and prospects. Chemical transformations covered include carbon-carbon and carbon-heteroatom bond formation, oxidation by solid oxidants, asymmetric organo-catalytic reactions, dehydrogenative coupling, peptide syntheses and polymeric material syntheses. The book will provide a valuable guide for organic, inorganic and organometallic chemists, material scientists, polymer scientists, reaction engineers and postgraduate students in chemistry.

Book Synopsis Carbon-carbon Bond Forming Reactions Facilitated by Kukhtin-ramirez Adducts by : Samantha Damiano
Download or read book Carbon-carbon Bond Forming Reactions Facilitated by Kukhtin-ramirez Adducts written by Samantha Damiano and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The preparation of carbon-carbon bonds is an essential goal of organic synthesis. This thesis describes research efforts directed toward the use of Kukhtin-Ramirez type oxyphosphoranes derived from [alpha]-ketoesters as reagents to initiate carbon-carbon bond formation in three transformations. First, a non-metal mediated Barbier-type addition is described with diastereoselection under both substrate and reagent control. Second, diastereoselective epoxidation resulting from reaction of Kukhtin-Ramirez adducts with aldehydes is described and the impact of Lewis acid additives on diastereoselection is explored. Third, the potential of Kukhtin-Ramirez adducts as carbene transfer precursors in transition metal-catalyzed reactions is investigated within the context of cyclopropanation and insertion reactions. Concisely, this thesis explores the ambiphilic properties of Kukhtin-Ramirez adducts by attempting to carry out new carbon-carbon bond forming reactions.

Book Synopsis The Limits of Organic Life in Planetary Systems by : National Research Council
Download or read book The Limits of Organic Life in Planetary Systems written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2007-07-26 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The search for life in the solar system and beyond has to date been governed by a model based on what we know about life on Earth (terran life). Most of NASA's mission planning is focused on locations where liquid water is possible and emphasizes searches for structures that resemble cells in terran organisms. It is possible, however, that life exists that is based on chemical reactions that do not involve carbon compounds, that occurs in solvents other than water, or that involves oxidation-reduction reactions without oxygen gas. To assist NASA incorporate this possibility in its efforts to search for life, the NRC was asked to carry out a study to evaluate whether nonstandard biochemistry might support life in solar system and conceivable extrasolar environments, and to define areas to guide research in this area. This book presents an exploration of a limited set of hypothetical chemistries of life, a review of current knowledge concerning key questions or hypotheses about nonterran life, and suggestions for future research.
