Book excerpt: Un total de 52 échantillons de sédiments a été prélevé en amont du barrage Smith (22 stations) et à l'embouchure de la rivière Saint-Louis (10 stations). Tous les échantillons ont été soumis à une caractérisation physico-chimique et 12 d'entre eux ont été analysés pour leur potentiel (géno)toxique à l'aide de bioessais réalisés en laboratoire. De ces 12 échantillons, trois provenaient de stations de comparaison, dont deux de la zone située en amont de la digue et un de la zone située à l'embouchure de la rivière. La batterie bioanalytique comprenait quatre microbioessais, soit le MicrotoxTM, le SOS Chromotest, l'essai en phase solide d'inhibition de l'activité estérasique chez l'algue Selenastrum capricornutum et le test de (sub)létalité chez l'hydre Hydra attenuata. Ce rapport présente les résultats de la caractérisation physico-chimique et bioanalytique des échantillons prélevés dans la rivière Saint-Louis et discute sommairement des données générées à partir des bioessais.

Book excerpt: Les propriétaires du lac Baxter, situé à Frampton en Nouvelle-Beauce (Québec, Canada), souhaitent documenter le phénomène d'eutrophisation qui s'opère au sein de leur lac. Ils désirent mettre à jour différentes informations relatives à l'état de santé du lac, étant donné que le dernier suivi date de 2004. En collaboration avec le Conseil de bassin de la rivière Etchemin (CBE), cet essai vise plus particulièrement à caractériser l'état des rives, identifier les sources potentielles de sédiments au lac et à proposer des mesures visant à limiter l'apport en nutriments et sédiments de manière à ralentir le processus d'eutrophisation. La caractérisation des rives réalisée à l'automne 2019 a permis de constater la dégradation importante de certaines sections de la bande riveraine du lac Baxter. L'étude des sources potentielles de sédiments a permis d'identifier les causes contribuant à la sédimentation au lac. L'aménagement du territoire et les activités anthropiques sur le bassin versant et à proximité du lac (coupes forestières, présence de réseaux routiers, dégradation de la bande riveraine) peuvent favoriser le transport de sédiments au lac Baxter et contribuer à accélérer le processus d'eutrophisation. Les analyses granulométriques ont permis de caractériser en détail les sédiments prélevés en différents endroits au lac Baxter afin d'aider à l'identification des sources potentielles de sédiments. Ces résultats montrent que la majorité des échantillons analysés possèdent un contenu élevé en matière organique et correspondent à des sédiments de type limon. Finalement, des mesures et des pistes de solution visant à limiter l'apport en sédiments au lac, telle la végétalisation des bandes riveraines, sont présentées. Le présent travail permet de faire l'état des connaissances sur cette problématique environnementale touchant le lac Baxter et d'outiller les différents acteurs dans la mise en place de mesures permettant la conservation de ce milieu.
