Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On a beautiful Spring morning in Jonesport Maine, Captain Jack Harper of Harper Industries walks into Mobys restaurant for his morning cup of Mobys jo, unsuspecting that it would be the beginning of a life change, not only for him, but for his community and quite possibly the country. Captain Jack had been a man of integrity and honor his entire life; a man of service to his community. Little did he know that his community would be asking him to be a man of service for the entire nation. In the quiet of the morning, as the locals debated politics and listened to the typical rhetoric of the incumbent and presidential contenders, a stranger to the town was sitting in the corner taking it all in. As the locals began talking about what life would be like under a presidency of Captain Jack, the stranger became more intrigued about who this Captain Jack character might be. When the townsmen finally approached Jack, encouraging him to make a run for the presidency, the stranger, Dexter Wyman, chair of the Constitution Party, introduced himself and joined the fray. Jack reluctantly accepted the challenge to run under the Constitution part banner, with the assistance of the entire township. Will Jack finish the race? Will he be shutdown before getting off the starting block? Will he be eliminated permanently by organized, empowered politicians who dont appreciate a newcomer to the field?

Download or read book Captain Jack Crawford--buckskin Poet, Scout, and Showman written by Darlis A. Miller and published by UNM Press. This book was released on 2012 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jack Crawford (1847-1917) entertained a generation of Americans and introduced them to their frontier heritage. A master storyteller who presented the West as he experienced it, he was one of America's most popular performers in the late nineteenth century. Dressed in buckskin with a wide-brimmed sombrero covering his flowing locks, Crawford delivered a "frontier monologue and medley" that, as one New York City journalist reported, "held his audience spell-bound for two hours by a simple narration of his life." In this biography, Darlis Miller re-creates his experiences as a scout, rancher, miner, reformer, husband and father, and poet and entertainer to reinterpret the American Dream and the lure of getting rich pursued by many during the Gilded Age.

Book Synopsis Remapping Citizenship and the Nation in African-American Literature by : Stephen Knadler
Download or read book Remapping Citizenship and the Nation in African-American Literature written by Stephen Knadler and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2009-09-10 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Through a reading of periodicals, memoirs, speeches, and fiction from the antebellum period to the Harlem Renaissance, this study re-examines various myths about a U.S. progressive history and about an African American counter history in terms of race, democracy, and citizenship. Reframing 19th century and early 20th-century African-American cultural history from the borderlands of the U.S. empire where many African Americans lived, worked and sought refuge, Knadler argues that these writers developed a complicated and layered transnational and creolized political consciousness that challenged dominant ideas of the nation and citizenship. Writing from multicultural contact zones, these writers forged a "new black politics"—one that anticipated the current debate about national identity and citizenship in a twenty-first century global society. As Knadler argues, they defined, created, and deployed an alternative political language to re-imagine U.S. citizenship and its related ideas of national belonging, patriotism, natural rights, and democratic agency.

Book Synopsis Old Riot, New Ranger by : Bob Alexander
Download or read book Old Riot, New Ranger written by Bob Alexander and published by Frances B. Vick. This book was released on 2018 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Award-winning author Bob Alexander presents a biography of 20th-century Ranger Captain Jack Dean, who holds the distinction of being one of only five men to serve in both the Officer's Corps of the Rangers and also as a President-appointed United States Marshal. Jack Dean's service in Texas Ranger history occurred at a time when the institution was undergoing a philosophical revamping and restructuring, all hastened by America's Civil Rights Movement, landmark decisions handed down by the United States Supreme Court, zooming advances in forensic technology, and focused efforts designed to diversify and professionalize the Rangers. His job choice caused him to circulate in the duplicitous underworld of dishonesty and criminality where twisted self interest overrode compliance with societal norms. His biography is packed with true-crime calamities: double murders, single murders, negligent homicides, suicides, jailbreaks, manhunts, armed robberies and home invasions, kidnappings, public corruption, sexual assaults, illicit gambling, car-theft rings, dope smuggling, and arms trafficking.
