Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Capitol Expressway By: Richard Siciliano The Capitol Expressway is a fantasy retelling of the unending struggle between John Locke and Thomas Hobbes for the civilized soul. In the Aquarian Age, individualism, the source of all evil, has been replaced by social cooperation, resulting in equality, peace, and harmony. Rehabilitation has replaced punishment. Yet for some reason, God keeps sending babies on earth who are unique individuals and who grow up wishing to express themselves as such. How can a perfect society protect itself from this danger? Perhaps by redefining what it means to be human. Fetuses are aborted and the elderly are euthanized. Both are considered non-violent procedures. Why shouldn’t those who are cancerous to society be eliminated as well? This is the story of a government administrator who cannot define the difference between cowardice and bravery in a society in which there are no enemies, who is torn by his desires and the advantages that the society his given him, and who is unable to decide whether goodness resides in himself or in heaven, until love answers those questions for him.

Book Synopsis Time Capsules by : William E. Jarvis
Download or read book Time Capsules written by William E. Jarvis and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2015-10-05 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Time capsules have been used for thousands of years to store for posterity a selection of objects thought to be representative of life at a particular time. Such vessels have the dual purpose of causing participants to ponder their own cultural era and think about those to come. This work is a cultural history of five thousand years of time capsules and other related time-information transfer experiences. It examines both the formal and the popular culture aspects of the time capsule, from its roots in ancient Mesopotamian and Egyptian building foundation deposits to the present utilization of spacecraft probes and other extreme locations. The deposits of 3000 BCE deliberately had no definite date and time to be opened; in 1876 CE came the idea of target-dated deposits. Also discussed are how "real" time capsules work, notional and archaeological time capsules, the height of the time capsule's popularity from 1935 to 1982, the preservation of writings in time capsules, keeping time in a perpetual futurescape, and turn of the century hype surrounding millennium time capsules.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Lost History of the Capitol is an account of the many bizarre, tragic, and violent episodes that have occurred in and around the Capitol Building, from the founding of the federal capital city in 1790 up to contemporary times, including the events of January 6, 2021. In this 230-year span, the Senate, the House of Representatives, and the neighborhoods nearby have witnessed dozens of high-profile scandals, trials, riots, bombings, and personal assaults, along with some inspiring events as well. This is a popular work about the US Capitol Building and its environs. Among the many incidents the book chronicles are a duel-to-the-death between congressmen, the terror bombings of the Senate, the first assassination attempt on a US president, moving tributes to war heroes and heroines, vicious brawls between senators and congressmen, protest marches both uplifting and illicit, public hangings near the Capitol steps, a gun battle in the House, bloody ethnic broils quelled by a famous father and son, and the citywide and Capitol Building riots of 2020–21.
