Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: WATERMELON JUICE Happy New Year 2024! Happy to meet again, loyal friends of Armory Reborn! Hope you are all healthy, happy and enthusiastic. Entering the new year 2024, the international community is still concerned about the ongoing war in Europe and the Middle East. In Europe, the Ukraine vs Russia war has not yet shown a clear solution. In the Middle East, the Hamas (Palestine) vs Israel war is still not over. Israel’s attacks on civilians in the Gaza Strip are very severe and concerning. Israel’s plan to “expel” Palestinian civilians from Gaza has become a new problem. Meanwhile, the number of civilian casualties in Gaza has reached more than 21,000. So, Armory Reborn presents a special article highlighting world conditions in 2024. Apart from geopolitical conflicts, 2024 is an important year because several countries will hold general elections this year. Taiwan’s presidential and parliamentary elections are scheduled to take place on January 13, 2024. Competition between presidential candidates is quite tight, amidst Taiwan’s economic decline and tensions in Taipei’s relations with Beijing. Although the issue of relations with China is still significant, socio-economic issues are likely to influence the results of this election. Apart from that, there is a book review that reviews Sovereign Wealth Funds (SWF). The role of SWF has been recognized as increasingly important in recent years. SWF can play a role in supporting infrastructure development in developing countries. Unfortunately, Indonesia does not seem to have built its own SWF base. Indonesia is still lagging behind neighboring countries such as Singapore and Malaysia. For those of you who like military technology, we present an article about the EMB-314 Super Tucano attack aircraft. This aircraft, produced by Embraer Brazil, is quite popular in the global market. Unfortunately, two Super Tucano aircraft belonging to the Indonesian Air Force crashed due to an accident while carrying out flight training last year. We hope that Armory Reborn friends can enjoy all these articles. Satrio Arismunandar Editor in chief

Book Synopsis Traditionalism and the Ascendancy of the Malay Ruling Class in Malaya by : Donna J. Amoroso
Download or read book Traditionalism and the Ascendancy of the Malay Ruling Class in Malaya written by Donna J. Amoroso and published by NUS Press. This book was released on 2014-05-26 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this original and perceptive study Donna J. Amoroso argues that the Malay elites' preeminent position after the Second World War had much to do with how British colonialism reshaped old idioms and rituals _ helping to (re)invent a tradition. In doing so she illuminates the ways that traditionalism reordered the Malay political world, the nature of the state and the political economy of leadership. In the postwar era, traditionalism began to play a new role: it became a weapon which the Malay aristocracy employed to resist British plans for a Malayan Union and to neutralise the challenge coming groups representing a more radical, democratic perspective and even hijacking their themes. Leading this conservative struggle was Dato Onn bin Jaafar, who not only successfully helped shape Malay opposition to the Malayan Union but was also instrumental in the creation of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) that eventually came to personify an ïacceptable Malay nationalismÍ. Traditionalism and the Ascendancy of the Malay Ruling Class in Colonial Malaya is an important contribution to the history of colonial Malaya and, more generally, to the history of ideas in late colonial societies.

This book was released on 2003-08-01 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines how media have brought about or paced dramatic political events in Southeast Asia over the last two decades. It highlights a situation where media dynamics are no longer a simple formula of state control versus media resistance. The state can propel its own media-liberalizing programme; civil society can be an enemy of press freedom; market forces and cultural mindsets are sometimes more potent agents of change than state-appointed media custodians. Practitioners, scholars and activists have come together in this volume to provide a diversity of narratives on subjects as varied as powerful politicians and marginalized transsexuals.

This book was released on 2017-01-02 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The College Academic Writing: A Genre-Based Perspective course book is organized based on genre perspective. It teaches and trains the students about the writing process and content writing. It also guides them to identify to whom the writing is, for what purpose it is, and to what context it is used. It is commonly understood that in teaching writing to students with low entry level of English proficiency, there is always the risk of sacrificing creativity in order to achieve accuracy, or vice versa. College Academic Writing: A Genre- Based Perspective is designed to guide and help students about the process of writing and the product of the writing itself in such a way that the final work of writing is not only expressive and rich in content but also clear and accurate, as well as relevant to their needs.
