También se le conoce como Cantar de Salomón o Cantar de los Cantares de Salomón, es uno de los libros de la Biblia y del Tanaj. En la Biblia cristiana se encuentra ubicado entre los libros de Eclesiastés e Isaías, en la Biblia católica se encuentra entre Eclesiastés y Sabiduría, mientras que en la versión judía se ubica entre Rut y Eclesiastés. La introducción a este libro indica brevemente a Salomón como autor del libro, y así lo han considerado las religiones judías y cristianas. Aunque muchos indican el año 600 a. C. como fecha del relato, es muy probable que éste fuera escrito con anterioridad, debido a su usual utilización entre los hebreos. Puesto que los manuscritos se encuentran en manos de la comunidad judía, es muy difícil hacer la prueba del carbono 14 a todas las copias de sus sinagogas; no obstante, si fuera obra de este singular rey del cual tenemos registro, estaría situado en el año 1020 a. C. La atribución a Salomón parece ficticia. El hebreo empleado en el texto es tardío y con algunos arameísmos e incluso influencias del griego. Ricciotti por todos esos motivos filológicos y del uso de la simbología pone la fecha de redacción en el siglo IV a. C. A primera vista, el Cantar de los Cantares se estructura como un poema de amor conyugal a voces o cantos alternos, ajeno a todo plan organizado y que escapa a cualquier categorización rigurosa. Trata de dos amantes, Salomón y Sulamita, que han sido obligados a separarse, que se buscan con desesperación, declaman su amor en una forma poética altamente sofisticada, se reúnen y vuelven a separarse, siempre con la profunda esperanza de volver a estar juntos para siempre, apoyándose en la antigua premisa de que \"El amor siempre triunfa\".
