Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The interrelationships between two sets of measurements made on the same subjects can be studied by canonical correlation. Originally developed by Hotelling [1936], the canonical correlation is the maximum correlation between linear functions (canonical factors) of the two sets of variab|es. An alternative statistic to investigate the interrelationships between two sets of variables is the redundancy measure, developed by Stewart and Love [1968]. Van Den Wollenberg [1977] has developed a method of extracting factors which maximize redundancy, as opposed to canonical correlation.A component method is presented which maximizes user specified convex combinations of canonical correlation and the two nonsymmetric redundancy measures presented by Stewart and Love. Monte Carlo work comparing canonical correlation analysis, redundancy analysis, and various canonical/redundancy factoring analyses or/the Van Den Wollenberg data is presented. An empirical example is also provided.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contributions to Correlational Analysis provides information pertinent to the fundamental aspects of correlational analysis that can be used to replace and enhance many of the parametric and nonparametric inferential statistical tests. This book discusses the basic concern of correctional analysis, which is the relationship between two sets of measure. Organized into 18 chapters, this book begins with an overview of the nature of correction analysis. This text then explains the simple linear relationships in which explains the simple linear relationships in which Y and X each consists of some single measurement per person and the relationship is assumed to be linear. Other chapters consider basic ways of expanding the process to include more or different measurements of either X or Y but with no attempt to find the best functions. This book discusses as well the topic of factor analysis. The final chapter deals with canonical correlation. This book is a valuable resource for psychologists.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the sixth edition of a popular textbook on multivariate analysis. Well-regarded for its practical and accessible approach, with excellent examples and good guidance on computing, the book is particularly popular for teaching outside statistics, i.e. in epidemiology, social science, business, etc. The sixth edition has been updated with a new chapter on data visualization, a distinction made between exploratory and confirmatory analyses and a new section on generalized estimating equations and many new updates throughout. This new edition will enable the book to continue as one of the leading textbooks in the area, particularly for non-statisticians. Key Features: Provides a comprehensive, practical and accessible introduction to multivariate analysis. Keeps mathematical details to a minimum, so particularly geared toward a non-statistical audience. Includes lots of detailed worked examples, guidance on computing, and exercises. Updated with a new chapter on data visualization.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A firm knowledge of factor analysis is key to understanding much published research in the social and behavioral sciences. Exploratory Factor Analysis by W. Holmes Finch provides a solid foundation in exploratory factor analysis (EFA), which along with confirmatory factor analysis, represents one of the two major strands in this field. The book lays out the mathematical foundations of EFA; explores the range of methods for extracting the initial factor structure; explains factor rotation; and outlines the methods for determining the number of factors to retain in EFA. The concluding chapter addresses a number of other key issues in EFA, such as determining the appropriate sample size for a given research problem, and the handling of missing data. It also offers brief introductions to exploratory structural equation modeling, and multilevel models for EFA. Example computer code, and the annotated output for all of the examples included in the text are available on an accompanying website.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From earlier ecological studies it has become apparent that simple univariate or bivariate statistics are often inappropriate, and that multivariate statistical analyses must be applied. Despite several difficulties arising from the application of multivariate methods, community ecology has acquired a mathematical framework, with three consequences: it can develop as an exact science; it can be applied operationally as a computer-assisted science to the solution of environmental problems; and it can exchange information with other disciplines using the language of mathematics. This book comprises the invited lectures, as well as working group reports, on the NATO workshop held in Roscoff (France) to improve the applicability of this new method numerical ecology to specific ecological problems.
