This book was released on 1991 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, written in simple language, explains the Canadian Human Rights Act and how and when it can be used to assist individuals with mental handicaps. The book is designed to help people learn their rights as citizens of Canada and learn that if something wrong is done to them they can do something to change it. It explains what human rights are and how people with a mental handicap are often treated by the rest of society in a way that ignores their human rights. The book's seven chapters cover: laws that protect people from discrimination and which levels of government protect which rights; protection under the Canadian Human Rights Act; responsibilities of the Canadian Human Rights Commission; types of complaints that can be filed with the Commission; steps of the complaint process; using the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms to attack barriers; and helpful hints. The book contains a detachable board game called "Rights and Wrongs"; a "find-the-words" game; a glossary of relevant terms; a list of 9 books and a magazine with useful information for people with a mental handicap and their family and friends; and a list of the regional Canadian Human Rights Commission offices. Book Synopsis Human Rights at Work by : Colin Fenwick
Download or read book Human Rights at Work written by Colin Fenwick and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2010-10-12 with total page 658 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concerns associated with globalisation of markets, exacerbated by the 'credit crunch', have placed pressure on many nation states to make their labour markets more 'flexible'. In so doing, many states have sought to reduce labour standards and to diminish the influence of trade unions as the advocates of such standards. One response to this development, both nationally and internationally, has been to emphasise that workers' rights are fundamental human rights. This collection of essays examines whether this is an appropriate or effective strategy. The book begins by considering the translation of human rights discourse into labour standards, namely how theory might be put into practice. The remainder of the book tests hypotheses posited in the first chapter and is divided into three parts. The first part investigates, through a number of national case studies, how, in practice, workers' rights are treated as human rights in the domestic legal context. These ten chapters cover African, American, Asian, European, and Pacific countries. The second part consists of essays which analyse the operation of regional or international systems for human rights promotion, and their particular relevance to the treatment of workers' rights as human rights. The final part consists of chapters which explore regulatory alternatives to the traditional use of human rights law. The book concludes by considering the merits of various regulatory approaches.

Book Synopsis Debating Rights Inflation in Canada by : Dominique Clément
Download or read book Debating Rights Inflation in Canada written by Dominique Clément and published by Wilfrid Laurier Univ. Press. This book was released on 2018-10-18 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Human rights has become the dominant vernacular for framing social problems around the world. In this book, Dominique Clément presents a paradox in politics, law, and social practice: he argues that whereas framing grievances as human rights violations has become an effective strategy, the increasing appropriation of rights-talk to frame any and all grievances undermines attempts to address systemic social problems. His argument is followed by commentator response from several leading human rights scholars and practitioners in Canada and abroad who bridge the divide between academia, public policy, and practice.
