Download or read book ADIRONDACK CAMP LIFE written by Steven Rother and published by Fulton Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2020-11-23 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a series of real life short stories of the author’s life experiences in the high peaks region of the New York state Adirondacks. Although Steve Rother is, and has been a practicing attorney in New Jersey, he has had deep roots in the Adirondacks from early childhood through his 80th year of life. Those experiences began in 1948, long before the Adirondacks became easily accessible by interstate highways. The experiences became lifelong when his immigrant father, who earlier traveled from New York City to the high peaks by hitch hiking, purchased a camp. These short stories relate how his experiences in the Adirondacks, under the influence of his parents and Adirondack natives, have influenced his identity. {00922945.2}

Between Shadows: The final Darkle story, is a cyclonic examination of twisted and repressed love, leading to ultimate redemption. Completing the modern day mythos begun in The Noble Stories and Darkle's Midnight Tales, Between Shadows reunites Michael with his soul mate. However, Lucifer, jealous that one of his Fallen Angels is about to reunite its divided spirit, once again intervenes to separate the lovers before they become aware of their True Self. But the incarnations of Fate and Death conspire to help the one time Arch Angel return to paradise, a whole being, finally understanding the purpose of all existence.
Book Synopsis Camp Life Is Paradise for Freddy by : Fred Lanzing
Download or read book Camp Life Is Paradise for Freddy written by Fred Lanzing and published by Ohio University Press. This book was released on 2017-01-15 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Children see and hear what is there; adults see and hear what they are expected to and mainly remember what they think they ought to remember,” David Lowenthal wrote in The Past Is a Foreign Country. It is on this fraught foundation that Fred Lanzing builds this memoir of his childhood in a Japanese internment camp for Dutch colonialists in the East Indies during the World War II. When published in the Netherlands in 2007, the book triggered controversy, if not vitriol, for Lanzing’s assertion that his time in the camp was not the compendium of horrors commonly associated with the Dutch internment experience. Despite the angry reception, Lanzing’s account corresponds more closely with the scant historical record than do most camp memoirs. In this way, Lanzing’s work is a substantial addition to ongoing discussions of the politics of memory and the powerful—if contentious—contributions that subjective accounts make to historiography and to the legacies of the past. Lanzing relates an aspect of the war in the Pacific seldom discussed outside the Netherlands and, by focusing on the experiences of ordinary people, expands our understanding of World War II in general. His compact, beautifully detailed account will be accessible to undergraduate students and a general readership and, together with the introduction by William H. Frederick, is a significant contribution to literature on World War II, the Dutch colonial experience, the history of childhood, and Southeast Asian history.

Book excerpt: This book looks at the mass migration of refugees into India during the Sri Lankan civil war, the lives of the displaced people in refugee camps and the politics around the issue. It analyses the citizenship policies in India and the social, economic, psychological, political and legal implications of the laws on the lives of Tamil refugees. Further, it examines the protracted refugee situations in other parts of the globe to build a comparative case study of the Sri Lankan refugees. It delves into the stories and lives of these people in their home country before the war, the crisis and trauma of war and the experience of living in refugee camps. The role played by the state government of Tamil Nadu, the Indian government and NGOs towards the protection of these refugees and state of facilities for health, safety, education, among others, in the camps is explored. Finally, the possibility of integration and solutions like voluntary repatriation or the granting of citizenship for the people living in these camps are explored, This book will be a useful resource for scholars and researchers of refugee and border studies, human rights, political studies, international relations, political sociology, peace and conflict studies, war and strategic studies, and South Asian studies.

Book excerpt: "The Camp-life of the Third Regiment" by Robert Thomas Kerlin was written to honor the Third Missouri Volunteers, who offered their lives for their country in the cause of humanity. Life in a soldier's camp is unlike anything a civilian will ever experience, which makes it easy to judge these men who try to serve their country. Kerlin aimed to bridge the gap between regiments and the common people by bringing readers into the camp life of the Third Regiment of Missouri. From dawn until dusk and all through the night, Kerlin shares the experiences of what it's like to be a soldier, a surgeon, and even a bugle boy during times of conflict.
