Book excerpt: Excerpt from Camp-Meeting Sermons: Sermons Preached at the General Annual Camp-Meeting of the Church of God, Held at Anderson, Indiana, June 6-15, 1913 From the beginning of the camp-meeting the beautiful grounds adjoining the Gospel Trumpet Home and Print ing-office were thronged with people. They came from the East and the West, from the North and the South; and many remarked that they had never attended an as sembly that began with a more heavenly atmosphere. A number came more than a thousand miles for the pur pose of making their peace with God. Day after day following the preaching of the Word, the long altars were filled with those seeking help from God, some for the forgiveness of sins, others for sanctification, and still others for the healing of their bodies. There was great rejoicing in the audience as well as among the angels in heaven. The auditorium resounded with the praises of God as souls were born into the kingdom. Many ministers and gospel workers gave the seekers the necessary instructions, and prayed the prayer of faith for their help and deliverance. Those who came forward ranged from the young to the aged. True to his Word, the God of heaven, in answer to the prayer of faith and the seekers' humble submission to his Will, sent deliverance to them without respect to age. The power and glory of God rested upon the meeting. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: In the late 1800s, Norwegian immigrants began flooding into the Red River Valley. As they moved into the Grand Forks area, they brought their Old World folkways and religious practices. On the corner of Third and Walnut, Norwegian Lutherans built a small sanctuary to house their services. The building mirrored the simple worship of the Hauge Synod, the organization to which this congregation belonged. After merging with two other Norwegian churches in town, the old Trinity Lutheran structure passed into the hands of the Grand Forks Church of God, a congregation that echoed the revival fires of the Second Great Awakening. This is the story of a church building and the two assemblies that utilized it over a 100-year period.

Book excerpt: Asia Pacific Pentecostalism, edited by Denise A. Austin, Jacqueline Grey, and Paul W. Lewis, yields previously untold stories and interdisciplinary analysis of pioneer foundations, denominational growth, leadership training, contextualisation, and community development across East Asia, Southeast Asia, and Oceania. Pentecostalism in the Asia Pacific has made an enormous contribution to its global family—from the more visible influence of Yonggi Cho from Korea to the worship revolutions from Australia (particularly associated with Hillsong) and the lesser known missionary activity from Fiji—each region has contributed significantly to global Christianity. Some communities prospered despite hostile environments and wartime devastation. This volume provides a systematic study of the geographical contexts of Asia Pacific Pentecostalism, including historical development, theological influences, and sociological perspectives. Contributors are: Doreen Alcoran-Benavidez, Dik Allan, Connie Au, Denise A. Austin, Edwardneil Benavidez, John Carter, Michael Chase, Yung Hun Choi, Darin Clements, Shane Clifton, Dynnice Rosanny Engcoy, Michael J. Frost, Luisa J. Gallagher, Sarita D.
