A corpse of an old man being taken for burial converses with an unborn child trying to persuade him not to be born in a cruel world. The child refuses to heed the advice and the two agree that the child should be born dumb and see for himself the folly of living. The old man's words prove to be true in a development of dramatic events.
Download or read book Robot Law written by Ryan Calo and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2016-01-29 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Like the Internet before it, robotics is a socially and economically transformative technology. Robot Law explores how the increasing sophistication of robots and their widespread deployment into hospitals, public spaces, and battlefields requires rethinking of a wide variety of philosophical and public policy issues, including how this technology interacts with existing legal regimes, and thus may inspire changes in policy and in law. This volume collects the efforts of a diverse group of scholars who each, in their own way, has worked to overcome barriers in order to facilitate necessary and timely discussions of a technology in its infancy. Identifying controversial legal, ethical, and philosophical problems, the authors reveal how issues surrounding robotics and regulation are more complicated than engineers could have anticipated, and just how much definitional and applied work remains to be done. This groundbreaking examination of a brand-new reality will be of interest and of use to a variety of groups as the authors include engineers, ethicists, lawyers, roboticists, philosophers, and serving military.
Download or read book The Atlas of AI written by Kate Crawford and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2021-04-06 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The hidden costs of artificial intelligence, from natural resources and labor to privacy and freedom What happens when artificial intelligence saturates political life and depletes the planet? How is AI shaping our understanding of ourselves and our societies? In this book Kate Crawford reveals how this planetary network is fueling a shift toward undemocratic governance and increased inequality. Drawing on more than a decade of research, award-winning science, and technology, Crawford reveals how AI is a technology of extraction: from the energy and minerals needed to build and sustain its infrastructure, to the exploited workers behind "automated" services, to the data AI collects from us. Rather than taking a narrow focus on code and algorithms, Crawford offers us a political and a material perspective on what it takes to make artificial intelligence and where it goes wrong. While technical systems present a veneer of objectivity, they are always systems of power. This is an urgent account of what is at stake as technology companies use artificial intelligence to reshape the world.
Book Synopsis Prabhata Sam'giita - Songs of Neohumanism by : Shrii Prabhat Rainjan Sarkar
Download or read book Prabhata Sam'giita - Songs of Neohumanism written by Shrii Prabhat Rainjan Sarkar and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2012-02-24 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present songbook is an anthology of the songs (in the order of composition) of Shrii Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar known as Prabha'ta Sam'giita. In February 1982, Shrii Sarkar gave to the world the gift of Neohumanism. Neohumanism is in fact a renaissance of the 7500 year old Principle of Social Equality (Sama Samaja Tattva) propounded by Lord Shiva. Neohumanism expands the scope of humanist concern to include the plant, animal and earth realms. Neohumanism focuses its efforts on controlling the baneful consequences of narrow sentiments such as geo (geographical) sentiment, socio (religious/ethnic) sentiment and humanist sentiment. It is the intensity of devotion (bhakti) or mystical love (Ishq-e-haqiqi) that gives the Neohumanist the capacity to rise above these sentiments, the ability to enlighten others about them, and the capacity to fight these sentiments. Neohumanism liberates people from their limitations and doubts and fills them with courage, determination and limitless love.

Book Synopsis Devotional Music in the Iberian World, 1450-1800 by : Tess Knighton
Download or read book Devotional Music in the Iberian World, 1450-1800 written by Tess Knighton and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-05 with total page 455 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the fifteenth century to the beginning of the nineteenth century, devotional music played a fundamental role in the Iberian world. Songs in the vernacular, usually referred to by the generic name of 'villancico', but including forms as varied as madrigals, ensaladas, tonos, cantatas or even oratorios, were regularly performed at many religious feasts in major churches, royal and private chapels, convents and in monasteries. These compositions appear to have progressively fulfilled or supplemented the role occupied by the Latin motet in other countries and, as they were often composed anew for each celebration, the surviving sources vastly outnumber those of Latin compositions; they can be counted in tens of thousands. The close relationship with secular genres, both musical, literary and performative, turned these compositions into a major vehicle for dissemination of vernacular styles throughout the Iberian world. This model of musical production was also cultivated in Portugal and rapidly exported to the Spanish and Portuguese colonies in America and Asia. In many cases, the villancico repertory represents the oldest surviving source of music produced in these regions, thus affording it a primary role in the construction of national identities. The sixteen essays in this volume explore the development of devotional music in the Iberian world in this period, providing the first broad-based survey of this important genre.
