Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fundamentals of Machine Component Design presents a thorough introduction to the concepts and methods essential to mechanical engineering design, analysis, and application. In-depth coverage of major topics, including free body diagrams, force flow concepts, failure theories, and fatigue design, are coupled with specific applications to bearings, springs, brakes, clutches, fasteners, and more for a real-world functional body of knowledge. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are strengthened through a graphical procedural framework, enabling the effective identification of problems and clear presentation of solutions. Solidly focused on practical applications of fundamental theory, this text helps students develop the ability to conceptualize designs, interpret test results, and facilitate improvement. Clear presentation reinforces central ideas with multiple case studies, in-class exercises, homework problems, computer software data sets, and access to supplemental internet resources, while appendices provide extensive reference material on processing methods, joinability, failure modes, and material properties to aid student comprehension and encourage self-study.

For volume I see: https: //www.createspace.com/4525803 This textbook (along with vol I) has been peer review and received 4.9 out of a maximum score of five. Reviewer's Comments This is a basic text covering the essential topics in a coversational, engaging style. I would recommend this book to be used for the first semester of a first-year physics course. While this is best suited for students who are taking calculus concurrently, basic ideas in calculus are also covered for the students who have less mathematical background. The tenth edition presents the key concepts and topics along with engaging and contemporary applications. The chapters have been reorganized to bring up some of the more abstract topics and make the material more accessible. More theoretical exercises at all levels of difficulty are integrated throughout the pages, including true/false questions that address conceptual ideas. New marginal notes provide a fuller explanation when new methods and complex logical steps are included in proofs. Small-scale applications also show how concepts are applied to help engineers develop their mathematical reasoning.

Book excerpt: This book consists of two strongly interweaved parts: the mathematical theory of stochastic processes and its applications to molecular theories of polymeric fluids. The comprehensive mathematical background provided in the first section will be equally useful in many other branches of engineering and the natural sciences. The second part provides readers with a more direct understanding of polymer dynamics, allowing them to identify exactly solvable models more easily, and to develop efficient computer simulation algorithms in a straightforward manner. In view of the examples and applications to problems taken from the front line of science, this volume may be used both as a basic textbook or as a reference book. The comprehensive volume takes a textbook approach systematically developing the field by starting from linear models and then moving up to generalized linear and non-linear mixed effects models. Since the first edition was published the field has grown considerably in terms of maturity and technicality. The second edition of the book therefore considerably expands with the addition of three new chapters relating to Bayesian models, Generalized linear and nonlinear mixed effects models, and Principles of simulation. In addition, many of the other chapters have been expanded and updated.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an introduction to linear algebra. The main part of the book features row operations and everything is done in terms of the row reduced echelon form and specific algorithms. At the end, the more abstract notions of vector spaces and linear transformations on vector spaces are presented. However, this is intended to be a first course in linear algebra for students who are sophomores or juniors who have had a course in one variable calculus and a reasonable background in college algebra. I have given complete proofs of all the fundamental ideas, but some topics such as Markov matrices are not complete in this book but receive a plausible introduction. The book contains a complete treatment of determinants and a simple proof of the Cayley Hamilton theorem although these are optional topics. The Jordan form is presented as an appendix. I see this theorem as the beginning of more advanced topics in linear algebra and not really part of a beginning linear algebra course. There are extensions of many of the topics of this book in my on line book. I have also not emphasized that linear algebra can be carried out with any field although there is an optional section on this topic, most of the book being devoted to either the real numbers or the complex numbers. It seems to me this is a reasonable specialization for a first course in linear algebra.
