Book Synopsis Shear and Punching Shear in RC and FRC Elements by : fib Fédération internationale du béton

This book was released on 2010-12-01 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: fib Bulletin 57 is a collection of contributions from a workshop on "Recent developments on shear and punching shear in RC and FRC elements", held in Salò, Italy, in October 2010. Shear is one of a few areas of research into fundamentals of the behaviour of concrete structures where contention remains amongst researchers. There is a continuing debate between researchers from a structures perspective and those from a materials or fracture mechanics perspective about the mechanisms that enable the force flow through a concrete member and across cracks. In 2009, a Working Group was formed within fib Task Group 4.2 "Ultimate Limit State Models" to harmonise different ideas about design procedures for shear and punching. An important outcome of this work was the ensuing discussions between experts and practitioners regarding the shear and punching provisions of the draft fib Model Code, which led to the organization of the Salò workshop. Invited experts in the field of shear and FRC gave 18 lectures at the workshop that was attended by 72 participants from 12 countries in 3 different continents. The contributions from this conference as compiled in this bulletin are believed to represent the best of the current state of knowledge. They certainly are of general interest to fib members and especially helpful in the finalization of the 2010 fibModel Code. It is hoped that this publication will stimulate further research in the field, to refine and harmonize the available analytical models and tools for shear and punching design.

Download or read book Analytical Approaches for Reinforced Concrete written by Yufei Wu and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2022-04-16 with total page 556 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analytical Approaches for Reinforced Concrete presents mathematically-derived theories and equations for RC design and construction. The book applies deductive reasoning, logic and mathematics to RC. Laying out, deductively, the principles of RC, it encourages researchers to re-imagine and innovate using a solid conceptual framework. Sections consider the reasoning behind key theories, as well as problems that remain unsolved. The title presents key ideas in simple language and illustrates them clearly to help the reader grasp difficult concepts and develop a solid foundation, grounded in mathematics, for further study and research. The book is future-oriented, demonstrating theories that are applicable not only to conventional reinforced concrete members, but also to the envisaged structures of tomorrow. Such developments will increasingly require a deep, deductive understanding of RC. This title is the first of its kind, presenting a fresh analytical approach to reinforced concrete design and construction. - Takes an analytical approach to reinforced concrete using mathematics and deduction - Lays out the reasoning behind key theories and models in reinforced concrete design and construction - Encourages researchers-new and established- to re-imagine and innovate using a solid conceptual framework - Presents difficult concepts that are clearly and analytically presented with accompanying illustrations - Looks forward to the use of reinforced concrete in the complex structures of the future
Book Synopsis On Shear Behavior of Structural Elements Made of Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete by : Estefanía Cuenca
Download or read book On Shear Behavior of Structural Elements Made of Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete written by Estefanía Cuenca and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-12-27 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book sheds light on the shear behavior of Fiber Reinforced Concrete (FRC) elements, presenting a thorough analysis of the most important studies in the field and highlighting their shortcomings and issues that have been neglected to date. Instead of proposing a new formula, which would add to an already long list, it instead focuses on existing design codes. Based on a comparison of experimental tests, it provides a thorough analysis of these codes, describing both their reliability and weaknesses. Among other issues, the book addresses the influence of flange size on shear, and the possible inclusion of the flange factor in design formulas. Moreover, it reports in detail on tests performed on beams made of concrete of different compressive strengths, and on fiber reinforcements to study the influence on shear, including size effects. Lastly, the book presents a thorough analysis of FRC hollow core slabs. In fact, although this is an area of great interest in the current research landscape, it remains largely unexplored due to the difficulties encountered in attempting to fit transverse reinforcement in these elements.

Book Synopsis Innovative Shear Design by : Hrista Stamenkovic
Download or read book Innovative Shear Design written by Hrista Stamenkovic and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2003-09-02 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Innovative Shear Design presents a new, rational and economical design procedure that offers increased protection against shear for all types of structures. The first part of the book describes the internal forces imposed on any flexurally bent member, and goes on to describe how these can interact with external loading forces to cause failure. The author then details the new design approach, and explains how its implementation can prevent cracking and failure for a given load. The book contains numerous practical examples describing optimum design techniques for all types of structure. Innovative Shear Design is an essential reference for structural designers, architects, academics, and researchers. It will also be a key reference text for students of structural design.
