Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When James Dallas Egbert III disappeared from the Michigan State University campus in 1979, he was no ordinary college dropout. Egbert was a computer genius at sixteen, a boy with an I.Q. of 180-plus and an extravagant imagination. He was a fanatic Dungeons & Dragons player—before the game was widely known—and he and his friends played a live version in a weird labyrinth of tunnels and rooms beneath the university. These secret passages even ran within the walls of the buildings themselves. After Egbert disappeared, there were rumors of witch cults, drug rings, and homosexuality to try to explain the mystery. When the police search came to a dead end, the Egbert family called in one of the most colorful private investigators of our era, William Dear, of Dallas, who is a kind of real-life James Bond. Dear's search for the boy reads like a sensational novel—but every detail is true. Dear crawled through baking-hot tunnels, flew over the campus in a helicopter, and called into play every intuition he could muster. He realized that he must out-play and "out-psych" the brilliant, game-playing mind of Dallas Egbert. In the end, he did. The story of the tortuous search, the discovery of the boy, his return to his parents—and the final tragedy—is told here for the first time. This is the story of a generation, not just the story of Dallas Egbert alone; and anybody who has known a game-playing, computer-age adolescent will recognize some of the possibilities for genius, and for danger.

Book excerpt: This is a book about trips that my family and I have taken over the years into the wilderness areas of Northern Minnesota, Ontario, and Manitoba, Canada. These trips were taken between 1958 and 2010. It is still possible to make similar trips into these areas if you have the proper licenses and permits. These trips were a way of life for my family and they all were very easy on the budget. Although the years have dimmed my memory a little I have tried to keep the stories as factual as possible.

Book excerpt: Within the pages of a book exists a world drawn from a writer’s deepest imaginings, one that has the ability to pull readers in on a visceral level. But the audience’s fascination will only last if the writer can describe this vibrant realm and its inhabitants well. The setting achieves this by offering readers a unique sensory experience. So much more than stage dressing, the setting can build mood, convey meaning through symbolism, drive the plot by creating challenges that force the hero to fight for what he wants, and trigger his emotions to reveal his most intimate feelings, fears, and desires. Inside this volume you will find: • A list of the sights, smells, tastes, textures, and sounds for over 100 settings revolving around school, home, and nature • Possible sources of conflict for each location to help you brainstorm ways to naturally complicate matters for your characters • Advice on the many effective ways to build mood, helping you steer both the character’s and readers’ emotions in every scene • Information on how the setting directly influences the plot by acting as a tuning fork for what a character needs most and by testing his dedication to his goals • A tutorial on figurative language and how different descriptive techniques can bring settings alive for readers while conveying a symbolic message or deeper meaning • A review of the challenges that arise when writing description, as well as special considerations that apply specifically to rural and personal settings The Rural Setting Thesaurus takes “show-don’t-tell” to new heights. It offers writers a roadmap to creating fresh setting imagery that impacts the story on multiple levels and keeps readers engaged from the first page to the last.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A moving portrait of the iconic figure who led the way in establishing Wicca in North America--with remembrances of his life by his sister, Christine Cunningham Ashworth, and appreciations written by key figures in today's world of witchcraft, magic, tarot, and astrology. The iconic and renowned bestselling author Scott Cunningham (1953-1993) was the central figure in establishing Wicca in North America. His pioneering book Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner radically altered the practice of Wicca, enabling practitioners to self-initiate. Scott's books, especially his encyclopedias, remain popular today, years after his death. In recent years, Scott has also emerged as a celebrated queer icon, especially in the witchcraft world. Although so many people have come to Wicca and Paganism through his books, little is actually known about Scott Cunningham as a person and about his spiritual life. His little sister, Christine Cunningham Ashworth, seeks to remedy that. Since 2017, she has presented workshops devoted to Scott's life and work. Her book is offered as a gift to all those influenced by Cunningham's work. Christine grew up with him, laughed with him, learned with him, fought with him, and shared joys and sorrows. This book is not a biography as much as it is a memoir. The author writes about their childhood, gives a peek into their parents' lives, and brings to life what it was like to grow up in the Cunningham household. She explores the trajectory of Scott's magical path and affirms his legacy. She shares family photos and lifts the veil from Scott's life. Featuring a foreword by Mat Auryn, author of Psychic Witch and Mastering Magick, the book contains contributions from other key figures in today's world of witchcraft, magic, tarot, and astrology, including: Stephanie Rose Bird Amy Blackthorn Storm Faerywolf Nancy Hendrickson Dorothy Morrison Nicholas Pearson Benebell Wen

It follow the evolution of a rather primitive boy's camp into one of the most successful and popular co-ed sports camps in the country. The adventures and or misadventures are described as seen through my eyes and include my first fomantic interest, color wars, snipe hunt, pranks and many other camp activities. This memoir also includes over 100 photos taken during some of those glorious summers. I founded and ran a successful group medical practice for the past forty years and have only recently been semi-retired. I have maintained a strong interest in photography and have had two successful photographic exhibits at one of New Yorks most prestigious galleries, The National Art Club, at Gramery Park. This is my second book following the successful publication,m through AuthorHouse, OVER THERE, describing the six years I spent in Switzerland attending medical school in a foreign language, which I initially could not understand.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It all began one spring morning when I was taking my usual walk around the lake called Granite in the shire of Chess. Everything was fresh and green as nature once again welcomed the new season. A short distance on my walk, I was startled by a small creature of about eighteen inches tall that came out from the thick foliage and began to talk to me. I didn't want him to feel uncomfortable so I returned his greeting of hello. He then asked me if I had seen his pet chipmunk Spunkie, to which I replied that I had not. He then joined me on my walk, telling me all about his many adventures. Apparently, forest gnomes began each day planning just what they wanted to do that day. They called these activities adventures. They could be the planning of the inchworm races or the unplanned appearance of the rare and elusive wandering pine. I listened to the gnome Nog tell many of his adventures as we walked around the lake, looking for his pet chipmunk. As quick as he showed up, he just as quickly disappeared as he scurried back into the brush. The stories in this book contain the stories I could remember from our conversation. Each chapter contains one of his adventures. Enjoy them all!
