Book Synopsis Algebraic Surfaces and Holomorphic Vector Bundles by : Robert Friedman
Download or read book Algebraic Surfaces and Holomorphic Vector Bundles written by Robert Friedman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A novel feature of the book is its integrated approach to algebraic surface theory and the study of vector bundle theory on both curves and surfaces. While the two subjects remain separate through the first few chapters, they become much more tightly interconnected as the book progresses. Thus vector bundles over curves are studied to understand ruled surfaces, and then reappear in the proof of Bogomolov's inequality for stable bundles, which is itself applied to study canonical embeddings of surfaces via Reider's method. Similarly, ruled and elliptic surfaces are discussed in detail, before the geometry of vector bundles over such surfaces is analysed. Many of the results on vector bundles appear for the first time in book form, backed by many examples, both of surfaces and vector bundles, and over 100 exercises forming an integral part of the text. Aimed at graduates with a thorough first-year course in algebraic geometry, as well as more advanced students and researchers in the areas of algebraic geometry, gauge theory, or 4-manifold topology, many of the results on vector bundles will also be of interest to physicists studying string theory.

Book excerpt: The 16 articles presented here are based on lectures given at the Winter School on Mirror Symmetry held at Harvard University in January 1999. They represent recent progress and new directions in the field. Specific topics include Floer homology and mirror symmetry, special Lagrange fibrations, special Lagrangian submanifolds, and local mirror symmetry at higher genus. Other topics include homological mirror symmetry with higher products, categorical mirror symmetry in the elliptic curve, Lagrangian torus fibration of quintic hypersurfaces, mirror symmetry and T-duality, and mirror symmetry and actions of Braid groups on derived categories. This work lacks a subject index. c. Book News Inc.
Book Synopsis Theta Invariants of Euclidean Lattices and Infinite-Dimensional Hermitian Vector Bundles over Arithmetic Curves by : Jean-Benoît Bost
Download or read book Theta Invariants of Euclidean Lattices and Infinite-Dimensional Hermitian Vector Bundles over Arithmetic Curves written by Jean-Benoît Bost and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-08-21 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the most up-to-date and sophisticated account of the theory of Euclidean lattices and sequences of Euclidean lattices, in the framework of Arakelov geometry, where Euclidean lattices are considered as vector bundles over arithmetic curves. It contains a complete description of the theta invariants which give rise to a closer parallel with the geometric case. The author then unfolds his theory of infinite Hermitian vector bundles over arithmetic curves and their theta invariants, which provides a conceptual framework to deal with the sequences of lattices occurring in many diophantine constructions. The book contains many interesting original insights and ties to other theories. It is written with extreme care, with a clear and pleasant style, and never sacrifices accessibility to sophistication.

Book Synopsis Vector Bundles on Curves - New Directions by : Shrawan Kumar
Download or read book Vector Bundles on Curves - New Directions written by Shrawan Kumar and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-14 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book gives a survey of some recent developments in the theory of bundles on curves arising out of the work of Drinfeld and from insights coming from Theoretical Physics. It deals with: 1. The relation between conformal blocks and generalised theta functions (Lectures by S. Kumar) 2. Drinfeld Shtukas (Lectures by G. Laumon) 3. Drinfeld modules and Elliptic Sheaves (Lectures by U. Stuhler) The latter topics are useful in connection with Langlands programme for function fields. The contents of the book would give a comprehensive introduction of these topics to graduate students and researchers.
Book Synopsis Grassmannians, Moduli Spaces and Vector Bundles by : David Ellwood
Download or read book Grassmannians, Moduli Spaces and Vector Bundles written by David Ellwood and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2011 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of cutting-edge articles on vector bundles and related topics originated from a CMI workshop, held in October 2006, that brought together a community indebted to the pioneering work of P. E. Newstead, visiting the United States for the first time since the 1960s. Moduli spaces of vector bundles were then in their infancy, but are now, as demonstrated by this volume, a powerful tool in symplectic geometry, number theory, mathematical physics, and algebraic geometry. In fact, the impetus for this volume was to offer a sample of the vital convergence of techniques and fundamental progress, taking place in moduli spaces at the outset of the twenty-first century. This volume contains contributions by J. E. Andersen and N. L. Gammelgaard (Hitchin's projectively flat connection and Toeplitz operators), M. Aprodu and G. Farkas (moduli spaces), D. Arcara and A. Bertram (stability in higher dimension), L. Jeffrey (intersection cohomology), J. Kamnitzer (Langlands program), M. Lieblich (arithmetic aspects), P. E. Newstead (coherent systems), G. Pareschi and M. Popa (linear series on Abelian varieties), and M. Teixidor i Bigas (bundles over reducible curves). These articles do require a working knowledge of algebraic geometry, symplectic geometry and functional analysis, but should appeal to practitioners in a diversity of fields. No specialization should be necessary to appreciate the contributions, or possibly to be stimulated to work in the various directions opened by these path-blazing ideas; to mention a few, the Langlands program, stability criteria for vector bundles over surfaces and threefolds, linear series over abelian varieties and Brauer groups in relation to arithmetic properties of moduli spaces.

Book Synopsis Geometric Invariant Theory, Holomorphic Vector Bundles and the Harder-Narasimhan Filtration by : Alfonso Zamora Saiz
Download or read book Geometric Invariant Theory, Holomorphic Vector Bundles and the Harder-Narasimhan Filtration written by Alfonso Zamora Saiz and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-03-24 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces key topics on Geometric Invariant Theory, a technique to obtaining quotients in algebraic geometry with a good set of properties, through various examples. It starts from the classical Hilbert classification of binary forms, advancing to the construction of the moduli space of semistable holomorphic vector bundles, and to Hitchin’s theory on Higgs bundles. The relationship between the notion of stability between algebraic, differential and symplectic geometry settings is also covered. Unstable objects in moduli problems -- a result of the construction of moduli spaces -- get specific attention in this work. The notion of the Harder-Narasimhan filtration as a tool to handle them, and its relationship with GIT quotients, provide instigating new calculations in several problems. Applications include a survey of research results on correspondences between Harder-Narasimhan filtrations with the GIT picture and stratifications of the moduli space of Higgs bundles. Graduate students and researchers who want to approach Geometric Invariant Theory in moduli constructions can greatly benefit from this reading, whose key prerequisites are general courses on algebraic geometry and differential geometry.
